Plans for today (2024)

First part’s done, we’ve got the replacement vehicle. It’s a Toyota Highlander, big as a bus.

Now we’re in the process of filing a claim with our insurance, and god help me, I’m ready to just pay for it. It’s a long process and the claims adjuster keeps asking the same questions over and over again, and her accent is very difficult to understand, English isn’t her first language.

More than capable of taking on larger deer! JK, I hope that you never that close of an encounter with one ever again.

Good luck with the insurance people, I feel your pain. It seems like many credit card companies, insurance, and more farm out their call centers in other countries too often these days.

I finally found a way to get my medical insurance stuff changed online and never even had to talk to someone on the phone, which is great, since I wasted over an hour of my time on the phone on hold. Which was annoying but slightly funny, because I would hear the music pause and dry my hands/rush over to the phone to pick it up, only for the hold music to start up again. And now I will have that awful loop music in my head for the rest of the day. Sigh.

Still in my hidey hole too, because yesterday evening was a disastrous (well it felt it) so Mr SSOAP has gone hunter gathering for breakfast ingredients (including some tinned plum tartmatoes) to add some cheer to the morning 👍

I shall bemoan last nights pita events on the care givers thread. Saves clogging up ‘plans for the day’ with dreariness.

Plans for today completed so far:
  • Take son to the gym
  • Buy some fresh strawberries to make jam for the security detail that protects our neighbourhood (Christmas gift)
  • Trundle across the other side of town to get my first Xmas present for the wife. I gave up buying "surprise" gifts years ago, as she is impossible to please (and I'm not the only one who says that; all her friends and relatives say the same). In the interest of a happy Xmas morning, therefore, I get her to make a list.
Now I've got more plans because the ladies are coming to play canasta this afternoon, so I've got to cook. "Melanzane alla parmigiana" (aubergine parmigiana) with a green salad.

Done. I grilled the aubergines rather than frying them, because I love the smoky flavour. All ready for the oven, ladies playing canasta.
They brought 4 bottles of wine ( :hyper: :hyper: ), a paté, snacks, and some hallacas.

Final chapter in the “Deer in the Headlights (and Under the Front Tire)” saga:

MrsT spoke with our insurance company today and seems satisfied that it’ll be covered, minus our $100 deductible, and then she spoke with our credit card company and they said they’d pick that up, so we should be good on everything.

Well both feel better once it’s all wrapped up, though. Dropping the replacement car off tomorrow and heading home.

I’ve obviously gone through some Star Twilight Trek Zone, as I was supposed to land in Detroit, but somehow made it all the way to Romulus:

We’re sitting here listening to the gate agent play overbooked poker - they oversold the flight by two and everyone showed up, so now they have to get two people to stay for a later flight.

First offer was $200 gift cards…raised to $300…now sitting at $500 to go on a flight later tonight…the rub is, if no one takes it, two people are going to get kicked off with nothing.

Spin Wheel of Fate…

I think everyone here saw the Dr get dragged off an overbooked plane by security a while back so hopefully they’ll go peacefully 😬
