We are going out with some old friends tonight to a fine dining restaurant. It will be just the 4 of us so we will actually get to catch up without distractions.

Today I'm catching up on some housework and cooking some sourdough English muffins. I made the dough last night and it's been fermenting overnight.

This evening is the company work party, many will start drinking from around 6 if not before and get so hammered that Monday will be spent trying to outdo each other as to who drank the most and who took longer to get over it. We don't go. However on Monday evening we will be going to the pub with 2 friends for a meal, I will enjoy that evening way more than tonight. Catching up with 2 close friends before they spend Christmas cruising around the med. Far more enjoyable than being around a load of obnoxious drunks.

Yes indeed!

The people we are seeing tonight are a couple we've known a very long time. We were at their wedding 20 years ago (DH was a groomsman). DH has been friends with her husband for 30+ years. She's very social and lots of fun but she's usually a "more the merrier" kind of gal and likes to invite 5 or more couples, and depending on where we are meeting, others will bring their kids sometimes (loud crowded restaurants). It gets to the point we don't get quality time together as sometimes I don't know everyone and there are lots of conversations about people I don't know, kids whining and being demanding, and before I know it the evening is over and wasn't much fun.

So for tonight I insisted it would be just the 4 of us and to help her with that I selected a pricey restaurant where people with kids wouldn't want to go. Yet, this past Wednesday she mentioned a friend of hers (whom I don't know) birthday is today and was wondering if we could do a late lunch instead so she could meet up with her friend and her husband after. I think she was angling for them to join us for dinner maybe, not sure, but I suggested we could just get together another time instead so she could help celebrate her friend's birthday. She texted me back about an hour later, "Never mind, let's stick to the plan. " I think her husband suggested to do that, not sure.

This will be the first time in 10 years we've seen them without a bunch of other people around. And the first time we've been to a nice restaurant in several years (other than while in vacation). Should be a fun night!

I’m 50% on my gift-buying attempts today. MrsT has these freaky ecologically-mindful socks she likes, they’re made from grass and wheat and tree bark or something like that - I figured out where she got them and got her two additional pairs.

When we were in Pennsylvania, I saw this little LEGO Nutcracker at Target, a mere $13, and they had stacks and stacks of them…any to be had in Ohio? That’d be a no-cracker, so I’m off to see if I can quick order one. She loves nutcrackers (go figure) and LEGO’s.

I bought DH a nice soft robe and a pair of slippers so far. He's hard to buy for. I'm also going to order him a box of stuff from wild fork foods with luxury foods he likes (rabbit, octopus, escargot, etc.). Guess I'll need to learn how to cook rabbit for him. His mom used to make it for him.
