Plans for today (2024)

Yeah, yeah, yeah, laugh it up. She will even try to take things out of the bag when it's sitting right next to me. She's a sneaky thief!

BTW, she has toys crocheted just for her. Later, after I picked up the things for the wreath, I heard her running up and down the hallway, banging into the walls. She had found her pinecone and was apparently playing soccer with it.

Well one of my errands was picking up a grocery order. I just got notice that they are out of the flour tortillas (I was going to make chicken fajitas tonight) and I don't feel like stopping somewhere else to buy some so I am going to make copycat Chipotle chicken bowls (Lime cilantro rice, pinto beans, fresh tomato salsa, Adobo marinated chicken, sour cream and Monterey jack cheese) instead. DH wasn't too upset since they are similar flavor profiles. There have been times where I have told him we were going to have something for dinner and some sort of situation arose (like maybe I just changed my mind and didn't want to put a ton of energy in meal preparation) and decided to make something completely different. He gets rather miffed about that kind of thing, LOL.

This actually happened a couple of days ago.

I was sitting in the living room working away, when I saw something wander past the window out of the corner of my eye - did a double take and realized that it was a dog! There were not one, but two small cute white dogs happily exploring my backyard.

I called for my husband, went outside, and called to the dogs, who, bless their little hearts, trotted right over to me so I could get a hold of their collars. I then awkwardly crouch-walked them to the front yard, in the hope that maybe their owner was searching for them. Husband came out with our cats’ leashes so we could put them on the dogs and I wouldn’t have to lean down anymore holding their collars (I was worried about them running into the street and getting hit - our backyard is fenced but there are many gaps a dog that size could easily get through).

Anyway, as soon as husband also got me my jacket, a guy drove past our house, pulled over, and hopped out - I asked “looking for two small white dogs by any chance?”. Turns out they are new to the neighborhood, their door had blown open from the wind, and the two dogs had decided to have an adventure! I’m glad they got back to the owners all safe - they were really cute and friendly!

At least it wasn't a horse. I've had that happen in the UK. We used to live on a military training area that was open access to the public.

I was working from home that day, so I know it was a Wednesday. I'd been working away and decided to look up at the garden for a moment, and spotted a horse with bridle busily munching away on our front lawn. This is a loose definition of front and of lawn.

I went downstairs and outside and caught it quite easily. I got some rope to loop through its bridle and went off onto the common to see if I could find its owner. The area wasn't fenced in totally so there was a very real possibility of it ending up on the road.

Failing to find anyone looking like they should be on a horse (hard riding helmets are mandatory in the UK) , I ended up taking it across and down said road to the closest stables I could come up with. It wasn't one of theirs, but thankfully they agreed to take it in and call around locally to find its owner.

It took all day, but they did. The person had been out riding bareback and the horse had been spooked and thrown them and disappeared. It was about 4 miles from where it had happened when I found it.

Over here in Australia we're getting used to the unexpected turning up in our garden now. We've had several flocks of sheep that were not actually our landlord's and a herd of cows on one occasion (also not theirs!). And quite a few dogs including our landlord's dog no less than 4 times (found after they'd gone home for the day) and 3 of our neighbours dogs.

I’d be thrilled to have a horse show up in my yard lol!

This actually isn’t the first time we’ve had a dog turn up in the yard - our former neighbours once went away for the weekend and one of their huskies ended up on our side of the fence.

We left a note on their front door and hung out in the backyard with the pup until they arrived back home and knocked. “Um, do you have one of our dogs?”

Nope, I like ghost tours, we do (at least) one almost everywhere we go. 👻

There are very old prisons in the UK that are no longer in use but open to the public who do ghost tours. You can even stay overnight at some of them.

They vibrate with misery and are creepy as hell during the daylight so I can imagine at night they'd make for a great ghostly experience.
As they used to carry out capital punishment on the grounds I bet there's a ghost or two hanging about!

Prison Museums you can visit in the UK

Edit: After a quick read it looks like some of them are still in use but also open to the public.
