Plans for today (2024)

Besides being a work day, I’ve got to get started on painting the big bedroom. I’ve got the first wall prepped, paint bought, now I’ve just got to do it.

Goal is to get it done by the weekend. I’m notoriously procrastinative with painting, so I’ll paint a wall-and-a-third, then call it a day. MrsT always says, “Just start in the morning and do it all at once, then you have to clean up just the one time, it’ll save you time in the long run,” which is why I do this stuff when she’s gone.

The painting has hit a snag.

First issue, really, is that the bedroom is chock full of stuff. MrsT isn’t a hoarder, but she is a procrastinator, and she’s got loads of stuff scattered over a rather smallish master bedroom, in addition to the usual queen bed (four-post, no less), full-sized dresser, upright chest of drawers, a nightstand, a rocking chair, and a bookcase…and a giant exercise bike.

I can’t really move any of that stuff out of the room, especially by myself, so I’m stuck trying to shuffle things three feet this way and four feet that way, just to give me enough room to paint an area. Not gonna lie, it’s wearing me out!

What’s worse, though, I’m to the point of needing to move the bed, and I looked under there to see if I’d need to move the storage bins that are there…and remembered there are six funky supports that I’m going to have to dismantle by crawling under there and detaching them - and putting them back on when I’m done, of course.

I’ll be lucky to get one wall done today.

Having a quiet day today. Usual pet chores, a bit of ironing but that is about it. Yesterday was busy and a bit if a late one.

The plan for today was to empty the garage of lots of crap. It was a household amnesty day at the tip... by dismantling lots of stuff we filled the trailer (7 foot by 4 foot) and hubby's SUV to the roof, the trailer was laden level with the roof of the car. Found the remains of 4 desicated rats (likely swamp rats, yes they are a thing) and loads of stuff to go such as a3 seater sofa, 1 seater chair and footstool, a bar stool, 2 multifunction printers, and so much else. They're is now enough space to get a vehicle into the garage! But it isn't. We need to organise the other half first with 7 bikes in it, and sweep the garage out.

Plans for tomorrow include gardening first thing before it gets too hot, a doctors appointment and housework. And I need to cook.

Plans for today include (a) watching the Man City v Man Utd derby (b) concluding the menu for next weekend's Indian Food Courses in Puerto Ordáz and (3) staying indoors for 3 hours while the Bee Man removes the bees from the roof next door.
Update from yesterday: the Bee Man arrived and took a look at the nest. He said it's been there for some while, but that he needs an assistant to help him remove it because it's wedged in the corner of a couple of beams, and 5 metres above the ground! the bees are, apparently, a variety of African bee. Their recent aggression, he said, could be due to a new Queen bee. Sometimes the Queens are really aggressive and this transmits to the swarm. Lockdown from 3pm!

Should finish the painting today. I’m absolutely beat dead-tired, shuffling everything around, then up and down the stepladder. My joints are throbbing, especially my elbows, wrists, and knuckles.

Sitting in a bar that happens to serve breakfast this morning. It’s a strange dynamic.

I love those kinds of bars. They are all over New Orleans. I used to get up around 7 a.m. (after closing the bars at 4 a.m.) and head down to the French Market for beignets, coffee, followed by a beer (or sometimes I would skip coffee and just have beignets and beer). That was back in my 20s and early 30s when I lived in NW Florida (4 hours from NO), before I met Mr. OH.

Guess he will be exterminating instead of relocating.

It’s just a funny feeling to me, sitting at the bar, jukebox playing, dim lights, salty language from the high top behind me, guys playing smack-ass with the waitress…and it’s 9:30AM and I’m eating eggs.
Well, at 7 a.m. in New Orleans I was still pretty buzzed, so that kind of stuff didn't bother me. And I usually had the munchies, so...
