Plans for today (2024)

Ticked off a long list of things today including a fire wood run... 1.14 tonnes of wood between the trailer and the back of my Landcruiser. I think we've just found her limit. We struggled to pull up the hill in 2nd gear (high ratio) and I had to sit and climb slowly in 1st gear. Plus getting her to stop was testing the brakes. Lol, she is 26 years old and about to clock 427,000km, so I guess struggling a little is OK.

Drinks and rest before we soft the wood from the trailer into the wood shed. It's due to rain tonight, so it can't be put off.

Hmm the energy police are hovering 😁

I've subbed out pistachio, macadamia nuts, and cashews before (not all in the same batch) for pine nuts in pesto and liked it quite well.
Over here most shop bought pesto is made with cashews rather than pine nuts.
I prefer pine nuts though because they have very little sweetness to them.

Plus having someone in the house with nut allergies means I avoid bringing anything with nuts into the house because I spend my entire time tracking everything the nut product has been near or touched so I can thoroughly clean it and tbh I even look at the person eating them and hover waiting for them to finish so I can say "could you wash your hands now"
Crazy I know but I can't not do it!

Plans for today: I was asked to run a course on Indian Street Food next Saturday, so I've got to meet the sous chef of the restaurant to work out all the details. Basically its: I talk, they cook.  But then the owner had this brilliant idea ( he has a lot of those!) of turning the Street Food course into a full-blown dinner. Soooo, the challenge now is how to convert 8 little snack dishes into 8 courses. Shouldn't be too difficult, really, but it's a nice challenge.
Then, in the afternoon when I get back, I'm going to watch the final of the Champion's League. Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund.

Ah, but that cruiser will keep going....
400+ km is seen as relatively new here :)

Wish I could afford one

The original parts are just starting to fail! The original radiator gave up at Christmas, followed by the original alternator. Then she failed her rego (vehicle road worthiness) test with both original rear shock absorbers utterly failed... she handles a lot better on the dirt roads now with new shocks!

At some point I'm also going to have to replace the rear seatbelts. And remove the gas (as in liquid gas, not petrol) tank which will help. But for the moment she's the work horse and farm vehicle here and the only thing that will get us out of here when the road gets washed away in the twice or three times yearly storms that cause havoc.

I dont find that odd or crazy.

Ok. Well maybe I should try it. Pinenuts are damned expensive though... mind you, the good thing is my partner will eat anything. Nothing wasted now he is back home*

* for those that may not know he has dementia and has been in respite care whilst I recovered from an op.

Almonds work well too, as do pecans depending on your flavor profile.

Already worked on my elf princess for 3 hours or so. She's glued in place, as is her dragon except for 1 wing, and the sheet and pillows. Her gold underskirt has been sprayed with the draping stuff. Waiting for that to dry because I have to protect everything with wax paper before I spray the green taffeta because it bleeds BAD and I don't want to take any chances. It was bleeding just from the steam of the iron when I was getting rid of the creases before cutting. Painted some gold trim on the bed and glued some decorations on the front. So, everything has to dry before I do anymore. Hopefully, I'll get another piece or 2 of trim on the bed and maybe get the 1 wing glued down. I realized part of the unpainted wing back showed over the top of the headboard so that had to be painted, which is drying.
