Plans for today (2025)

Pick up a bell pepper plant since Ozzie trashed one, Morelo's market, Walmart for collard greens, and lastly by the liquor store.

Need to make something sweet to eat like cookies or fudge. I'm tired of these BS cake things I'm getting at the Tastykake discount store. (Not a typo; it's spelled like that!)

I'm still feeling a bit rotten which is now worrying me. I've got to start a 1000 mile ride home in just three days and I feel a bit robbed, usually I love this ride but as exertion as simple as going up and down the stairs is painful I'm full of dread!

So my plans today are the same as yesterday and the day before and the day before that - check the bike over, get the battery off and on a trickle charger, top up the oil and clean the chain, try and fix the heated grips and the sat nav charger, I can't delay that any longer. Heyho I think it'll at least feel like a massive achievement!

I love my new manicure 🫶🏻💅🏻

Slow moving today. I slept pretty good until around 5:30 or 6, when I had to get up and get water and such, then fell back asleep only to get woken up by my neighbor's dogs barking. All 5 of them were out (it's 3 houses right next to each other behind me that all have large breed dogs) and they just barked and barked for probably 45 minutes before even their owners got annoyed and brought them in. Took me a bit to fall back asleep after that. Then there were some hot rods racing around somewhere in the neighborhood, a loud motorcycle passed by our house, and then the dogs started barking again...I wish I lived in a more rural area in a spacious area not close to neighbors and traffic where I could have some peace and quiet!

At least I get to pick my own work hours so it's no big deal that I am not leaving for work until mid afternoon.

Heated grips??? Wow, never even thought of that forty years ago... 🤔

I was quite productive today - work, laundry, changed the oil, filter, air cleaner in the mower, and even went in town and ordered new license plates for MrsT’s car.

The BMV/DMV is legendary for soulless bureaucrats and never-ending wait times, but an advantage to living in a small town…time it right (10:30AM in our case), and there won’t be a single customer in there. In and out in 10 minutes.

I believe they had, if memory serves me correctly (and it often doesn't 😂) they first appeared in 1979.
I don't think I could ride without them in the UK. Scratch that, I may well be about to find out 😆

I normally am not a procrastinator, but...

So my driver's license expires on my birthday (soon), and I need to get the new "Real ID" so I can fly domestically. I called the BMV to find out what documents I will need. My passport expired and I didn't renew it yet since I hadn't planned on flying internationally anytime soon, so I thought that my SS card, my current DL, and 2 pieces of mail (such as bank or credit card statement) showing my name and address on them would be sufficient (according to the document list on their website), but I called just to double check before going down there. Well I was wrong. I need my birth certificate as well. I thought it was in my desk drawer with my expired passport, but I was wrong about that, too. I looked in a few other places and it wasn't there, either. I ended up having to go to the state of my birth's website and order a certified copy. It's going to take 20-25 days and cost me $43. And that's supposed to be the expedited fee. It was only $10 for the certificate, $13 for the processing fee, and $20 for the UPS delivery fee. I went ahead and ordered it, though. I'll probably find my birth certificate before the new one arrives, but I can't remember if it's a certified birth certificate or just a copy, so I am okay with paying for the new one. I could have risked sending them a check or money order in the mail and it would have only been $10 plus postage, but it's a risk to use USPS for a document this important. And if I had sent it snail mail, it might not arrive for a few months. Or not at all.

I can drive for a month with my current license and I am not flying anywhere until probably the fall. I just have to go get an e-check for my vehicle and get my tags renewed. I might as well go ahead and send off for my new passport next week just so I have it, though I think we won't be leaving the country until you-know-who is no longer in office.

That’s a lot to go through…I don’t have a clue where my original birth certificate is.

Speaking of all that, she called the BMV before heading over, to ask if we both had to be there (both our names are on the title), and they said no, but they did say they needed both DL’s.

She hung up the phone, then told me I was going anyway, just in case (because you should never trust what the BMV folks tell you), and then she grabbed our SS cards, passports, and her birth certificate.

“Whaddya doin’ that for?”
“With…the current situation…I’m not taking a chance! If I’m going into a government building, I’m taking all the proof I have that I’m a goddam citizen!”

Funny…but sad.

I think that's kinda weird that they need your DL but you don't have to be there.

Well nobody ever said you married a dummy. MrsT might have had a setback from her stroke awhile back but she's still pretty savvy in ways that count.
