Poorly food for poorly people. What you eat when feel unwell?

Told Mr SSOAP about this thread and about Windigo’s Cucumber finger sandwiches. He liked that a lot.
That’s how they used to cut the sandwiches for the children in the pavilion after cricket at school.
Will be doing him some finger sandwiches after his shoulder op in a couple of weeks time 👍

Cucumber sanwiches are a delight. But they are crucially dependent on the exact slicing of the cucumber (to the millimetre), the right type of bread and of course, the perfect salty butter.

I agree entirely.
But I’ve never had or given them as food when unwell. To me they’re high days and holidays.
I do put huge amounts of cucumber in my sandwiches but they’re always with something else.
I have no idea why, because tomato sandwiches are an everyday sandwich so why not just cucumber?

So if you were making a cucumber sandwich as poorly food for poorly people (see how I’m staying on topic 😬😂) how thick would you slice your cucumber?

Congratulations for staying on topic.

Oh, I would use ready sliced medium white bread or wholemeal (Warburtons or Hovis or whatever) . Medium to thin if using bread I had to slice myself, but the bread needs to be super-soft IMHO.

Depends I guess on your ability to chew things. 😉

Well if you can't chew, then cucumber isn't a good thing. I find soft bread easier that toast to chew...

One of my favourite things when poorly is a soft boiled egg with buttered soldiers (not toasted). There is a version of this called 'eggy in a cup' which I used to give my kids when they were poorly. A cup is heated by pouring boiling water into it, leaving for a minute then emptying. A soft boiled egg is scooped out into the cup with buttered soldiers of bread cut into small cubes. Add salt and pepper and mix well. Its both satisfying and soothing - nursery fare.

Do you have a Michigan connection? My SIL is from Michigan and she’ll flat out murder anyone who offers her Canada Dry, or god forbid…Seagram’s! 😱
Born and raised in Detroit. Lived there for 30 years. Graduated from U of D. Used to live right downtown - walked to work in the RenCen.
