Preparing for Christmas

When I was at my Mon's Senior Living Community, there was a Christmas tree set up just outside the elevator. It was decorated with a bunch of these cards...

You've seen this type before...
There was a sign posted at the front desk explaining all about these cards and if you could, help an older adult at Christmas with no family close by ... I'M IN!!! I just grabbed one, not really looking, shoved in my hand bag and went up to my Mom's.
When I got home I showed this to DH and exclaimed, "we are going to be generous little Santa's Helpers."
We were in Costco this afternoon and I picked up just a few of the things that I'll be putting in his Christmas stocking ...

I told DH that I want to add a bonus items to say "thank you for your service to our country".

SSSHHHH!!! I'm not telling DH that I'm also going to add another box of Chocolates, because "... life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get - Forrest Gump".
AND a large tin of Cookies, for the human that is
After DH had looked over our bounty of gifts, he asked me how many of these cards were on the tree... dunno, maybe 20 or 30 why?
"Keep an eye on that. If there's still any left once we get closer to Christmas, grab them. That's not right some get gifts and some don't"
AAWWWWW!

DH & I decided that the things that we had already gotten for what we're calling "Little Santa's Helpers" gifts were quite enough, so I took them over to Mom's Senior Living Community. I added a handmade Christmas card to his bounty, thanking him for his service.
We both agreed that we would take another card down from the tree and grant someone else's wishes.
I was told that the last card was taken this morning, but some times folks will bring it back to the front desk with apologies that they simply couldn't afford to fill the wish list.
The very nice gal who was manning the desk said that if I'd like, she would save one of those returned cards for us, YAY!

Last night we went out with friends for a meal, now bearing in mind there is a cost of living crisis and people are struggling, so last night I was surprised to see so many houses trimmed up, some are draped in lights. Even some around us are trimmed up. Suppose we ought to think about it.

So I picked Mom up this morning for her "beauty-fi-cation" day aka wash & Style hair appointment and arrived a bit early so that I could talk with the gals at the front deck about being a "little Santa's helper" for another older adult and son of a gun, someone had turned back in a card that had a Christmas Wish for a dog bed & toys for a medium sized dog and K-cups. I can do that! Costco, here I come....
