Preparing for Christmas

Advent calendars are a lovely thing. In the UK a child would be hard done by to not have an advent calendar to help ramp up the excitement levels for the big day.

Helps everyone get in the mood for celebration and it serves as a daily warning you have less and less prep time left 😆

A Christmas menu that has to be pre-ordered by Monday. What would you choose?

Nothing mind blowing on here but some nice traditional and standard offerings. I find it quite amusing that they put the calories on such a hefty menu 😆

I'd go with the scallops as a starter, the pear and goat's cheese salad, and the Crown of English turkey, which appears to be pork and duck??? :scratchhead: None of the "puddings" appeal to me.

Same except I’d forget the goats cheese salad and have the cheese at the end.

It means it’s predominantly turkey but you’ll also get duck and ham (I think that’s the American for Gammon) with a sausagemeat stuffing. It’s usual to have 3 or 4 types of meat when you serve turkey in the uk. I‘m perplexed about the bacon though, if it was pigs in blankets I’d get it but bacon on it’s own?

As promised, Santa and Rudolph in a monster truck. It don't get no more Texas than this, padner. 🤠

In the background of the first photo is a "real Texan" three-car garage. It holds a pickup truck, an SUV and a bass boat.

Is that Grandma's feet stick out from the hood of the monster truck? `Cuz, "Grandma got run over by a reindeer ..."

Yes, gammon and ham are the same, here. I wonder if the bacon is streaky bacon (American bacon), and if it is used to wrap something, like turkey breast??? It does seem odd to have bacon on the platter on its own.

My thoughts exactly. Streaky bacon is usually used for wrapping things, often here sausages or the turkey breast to keep it from drying.

I‘ve just realised I’ve actively avoided using the word ‘moist’ it’s just not a nice word is it 😂

I don't know how that got to be a thing, or who made it a thing, but moist seems like a perfectly normal descriptive word -- at least when it come to food.
