Sayings: logical/illogical/translated

My mom always said something about going to hell in a handbasket. No idea.
I've always heard that too, even used it, but never really knew what it meant. Maybe knowing you really shouldn't do something but do it anyway?

Pigs are clean animals
They only do the wet mud thing (no poo involved) to try and cool down because they have no sweat glands. I think rhinos are the same, cant remember about elephants, wish I had a memory like one though!

Another one for hell in a handbasket and not knowing what it really meant

You forgot "gone to see his maker","pushing up daisies", "bite the dust", "fall off your perch"and "12 ft under"
I had heard of all of those but the "fall of your perch", and I always heard 6 feet under, not 12. I guess some people needed to go in extra deep to make sure they weren't going to dig their way out???

I'm guessing you've never been on a pig farm.
You'd be guessing wrong on that one.
I live on a farm and we used to rear pigs (they are a good way to use up waste milk) and like most animals they are generally only dirty if they are kept in dirty conditions.

It's unavoidable with outdoor reared pigs that their legs get muddy in wet conditions but give them a clean environment they keep themselves clean.

The dirty pig thing is a myth born out of the mud wallowing and bad husbandry.
They even prefer to keep a designated toilet area away from where they sleep.
Sadly they are often kept in environments without enough space to carry out their natural behaviours so if you see dirty pigs (apart from obvious mud wallowing) it's a sign the pigs not having a happy life.

Dogs yes now they love to find a bit of outdoor 'perfume'

Faster/Slicker than 💩 through a goose.

One that I never hear these days, but was common when I was a kid: Dog bite your hide! - used a a general exclamatory statement, as in:

“I’m putting a new roof on the house.”
“Dog bite your hide! That’ll cost you!”

My grandparents owned a farm and they kept pigs.
