Breakfast was a little down-n-dirty today:

I'll turn a blind eye to the over cooked scramble. What is the 'crumbed' item?
That’s a deep-fried (not battered, though) potato cake/hash brown, the same type McD’s serves.

I love this place, even though it’s very basic. It’s very, very local (not that we’ve ever had tourists here), so you see some real characters that you won’t see at any of the chains, and nearly all the workers are high school kids, earning money for college.

Yeah - I like the way the interior looks.

Now I'm scrutinising - that is toast on the side but not buttered?

And you eat it like a sandwich?

I learn something new about American eating almost every day...
No, that's not how most people (in the US) eat toast. The butter side is turned in so that it doesn't smear on the plate I suppose. It might not have arrived on the plate like that, it could be that the dry side was down on each slice and the buttered sides were all stacked facing up, I dunno. I would guess he eats it one slice at a time (that's how everyone I know eats toast) unless he shovels the eggs inside as a sandwich. But then I suppose he would have just ordered a scrambled egg sandwich if that were the case.

No, that’s just how it’s served.

Think about making and serving a lot of toast that you’re going to cut before you serve it - instead of cutting each piece separately, you’ll just put the two buttered sides together, then cut it and toss it on the plate. Also, keeping it together like that keeps the butter off the back side of the toast and helps it melt.

But you don't like your butter melted completely, do you ask them to serve extra butter so you can smear some on after it's cooled?

Nope. I’m not one of those fussy people who customizes their restaurant order. That’s more my wife’s domain.

I also ask them to customize my orders, within reason of course.
Soft scrambled eggs, only because they cook them to rubber rounds these parts.
Dry toast, butter on the side, `cuz DH usually eats most of my toast and does not like butter in the least bit.
French Fries/Chips crisp please.
Steak medium rare, thank you.
Could I save my Tomato and lettuce on the side of my sandwich please, I give that to DH.

If there's an ingredient that can be omitted from a dish that I do not care for, it never hurts to ask.
