Show us your breakfast (2025)

Looks to me like one of those Mexican/Californian ones, to be honest. Still good, but a real, huge, tropical one looks like this:

It looked like a Florida avocado to me, which in the US is also called a tropical avocado.

Mexican and California avocados in our markets are typically Hass.

msmofet could clear it up.

The picture is a Carúpano avocado. Then we've got hybrids (usually about 500 gms), Catalina avocados (long neck), Choroní avocados (tiny, the size of a Haas) with their extraordinary nutty, buttery flavour, round avocados, and Maracaibo avocados (purple, with a long neck).
Spoiled for choice here!

I realize you've got them coming out your ears down there.

If it were a hass, I'd say it's jumbo in our markets. Without seeing the skin it's hard to say what it is.

This is a jumbo hass avocado I bought 2 days ago.

Was that one of those huge tropical avocados? That's a hella lot of green goodness you got there!
DD bought a bag of small avocados. I think they were small Haas. The pits are tiny. Two needed to be used. One was small and one was a little bigger. Both had brown spots which I cut off. Then I just split each one in half and shared half of each with her.

Must have just been the angle that made it look bigger. That and eggs are rather small these days. I noticed when I was weighing ingredients for a recipe the other day it called for 2 large eggs or 130g and my "large" eggs were only about 45g each so I used 3.

even the odd jobs we get are bigger than that! Here an average-sized Hass will serve both of us smashed on lunch with spare avo left over. We're on sheppards at the moment because the Hass season is over and they are typically smaller, but they still come in much bigger than that!
