The CookingBites Recipe Challenge: Nov 2015-June 2017

Well, its judgement time! We have had a good number of entries this time round and lots of interesting ideas put forward including three recipes for cakes and three recipes for smoothies. I was surprised that there were no salad recipes though. The majority of recipes were quite hearty affairs and seemed to be trending towards hotpots and stews (just an observation). One notable exception to this was @Elawin 's Beans and Greens, which ranked in my top three choices. It was also one of the few 'own recipes'. Another 'own recipe' was Beanie Crumble from newcomer @Sable Beech which also ranked in my top three. The third recipe on my shortlist was Roasted Garlic, Parsnip and White Bean Soup from @SatNavSaysStraightOn. I thought this was probably the most elegant of the entries - a lovely silky smooth texture with aromatic rosemary and that inimitable roasted garlic flavour.

An honourable mention goes to @classic33 for putting forward some eccentric recipe ideas but also an interesting recipe for Guinness® and Greenbean Casserole. This one nearly made it to my shortlist but, rather strangely, you might think, although I like green beans, I'm not a fan of them mixed into anything else.

Well, Its quite a close call but in the end I have chosen Roasted Garlic, Parsnip and White Bean Soup from @SatNavSaysStraightOn. So congratulations and its over to you @SatNavSaysStraightOn, for the next ingredient.
Thank you. I'm honoured!

Right I'll put my thinking hat on whilst going around Ikea in Canberra today and see what I can come up with.

Right, after a long thought about the matter and a discussion with my OH, I or rather we, have decided on something that will cover all 3 courses, not to mention drinks as well. It will cover both hemispheres and isn't too expensive....

I've selected Cinnamon or Cassia bark (Chinese cinnamon) also known as Dalchini.

You can have it in bark forum, ground form or even flowers if you can get hold of them (never seen them myself but...) and having used Cassia bark I'm more than happy for you to substitute as needed depending on your continent and what is available.

Some info on the difference.

Competition to close at midday UK time on Saturday 16th July. Slightly longer than usual but I move house twice during that time frame including Tuesday 12th July, so need a few days to sort myself out!

Seen the flowers!

I know a lovely Greek dish that uses mushrooms and cinnamon which I wish I could locate the recipe for to give people ideas. sadly I know exactly where my recipe is, its in a shipping container at the Port of Sydney waiting for customs clearance... otherwise I would upload a main course meal for you all to be inspired by!

OK folks, I'll put my thinking cap on and let you all know today hopefully. But you may have noticed in lacking attendance recently. I still have no landline phone, mobile signal or any Internet in my new home. and the weather is below freezing at the moment so every morning I have no water because Australians don't do insulation! I have to wait until the water defrosts in the pipes outside (the problem is only outside of the house) before i get water back...
