The CookingBites recipe challenge: soya beans/products

Can you buy tempeh in your country? It's available in the UK from supermarkets.

I happen to already have a packet in the fridge. Yet to decide how to use it...

As apple doesn’t flag it up as a typo I reckon America must do 😂
I’m not familiar with it so looked it up, I like Tesco’s explanation-

“Tempeh is like tofu after it's been at the gym - hard. It's ripped with whole pieces of soya beans for a firmer, chewier bite. Fermented with a live culture, it's then pressed into a dense, high protein base for all kinds of delicious healthy meals. Our Tempeh is organic and made from sustainable GM free soya beans.”

It's a long time since I had them.
As bar snacks, with a sprinkling of salt.
I liked them
Edamame was very popular here as a bar snack several years ago, but then faded away.

I've only ever had them sprinkled with salt.
As for tofu, in any of it''s formats, I find it totally uninspiring, so I suppose it's a question of what goes with it.

Coming soon - a stir fry loaded with umami.

I’ve got two planned so far, using soy sauce.

I’m a bit stuck as MrsT is away for the next several days, and she’d definitely want to be in one the tasting of these.

"The best laid plans............aft gang awry" they say in some quarters. The main purpose of the stir fry was to showcase fried tofu. I haven't mastered my new deep fryer yet and the results of the frying ended in a product that I viewed with restrained enthusiasm. So I didn't have them for the dish I had worked up. I do intend to go at it again and I did post today's dinner here without the fried tofu and without being a contribution to the challenge. You have my apologies for "ganging awry."

It happens! And I think it's great that you are cooking tofu in the first place. So many people have a prejudiced view of it.

Personally I wouldn't deep fry tofu (if that is what you were doing). It crisps up very well in an almost oil free pan. But maybe you coated it in batter something? In which case deep frying would make sense.

I did season it and coat it with bread crumbs. You are correct. Deep frying is not the way to go. I planned to get more tofu tomorrow and air fry it but I'll follow your lead. You haven't lead me astray yet.

silken tofu doesn't fry well. It's what I use when I want a creamy soup, rather than a stir-fry.

You might want to change to regular tofu...

What's the Difference Between Silken and Regular Tofu?
