Oh yes. It was a scary time and no moisture for 2 years. Now we did have old fashioned dust storms. Oh and when the lakes started drying up, many things were found including at least 6 or 8 missing persons from the 60's. They were found in their cars.

Will someone please find a way of bottling some of that heat and sending it over here - we have lots of rain you could have in return :heat:
The heat 'd be seized by customs for themselves if she were to send it.

The rain(from here) wouldn't meet Australian quarantine laws.

The temp has dropped to 22C inside. it will be in the high teens outside. it's due to do to 13C tonight. last week when they last forecast 13C it does to 9C instead. today was 36C all afternoon and onto 6pm. that will be a 25C drop if it does the same again. that's an enormous temperature difference which makes adapting really difficult. mind you in not complaining, it does mean we will get some sleep even if we play silly games all night with blankets and quilts trying to get the right temperature. right now is going dark fast. it has clouded over and is looking very dark and potentially rainy. I'll celebrate if it does rain.

PS, you are welcome to cme over and stay anytime you want. we have 2 spare bedrooms and plenty of spare heat at least during the daytime that is.
On the PS, either I'd be the "sane" one left on board after a day locked up in a metal tube, or they'd have me fastened down, mouth taped.

Assuming I could make the trip in the first place. Flying's out.

cycle it and use the ferries to get across. It does health the world of good to cycle around the world. I know from experience! :D

Still thinking of you. Keep a light jacket out year round.
I'd need more than a light jacket today! I was in a big thick woolly cardigan. It was 16C until I lit the cooker and made some rhubarb crumble, apricot crumble, nectarine crumble, and finally some Kentish sour cherry crumble. Spare crumble mix went into the freezer for a small one next time around. the first lot are in ramekins so individual portions. The last lot, I had run out of ramekins, so had to use a small pyrex bowl which holds about 6 generous servings!

Today was a level 2 day on the fire risk... the big one is under control at 3,500 hectares burnt. then there was another one which was just over 500 hectares and under control but there is now a very worrying one on my only exit and that is at 8 hectares and out of control and only 8km away. The only good news is that with it being on a really major road everything will be thrown at it. My hubby got through before the fire broke out, but he is going to go and speak with them and get advice. It only needs to spread across the highway (single lane each way at this point) and come less than 500m our way and we have no exit. It is also where the Rural Fire Service have said is our biggest problem and concern.

Having looked at the web site report rather than the android app report, they actually have it this side of the highway and closer. not much but enough to be an issue if it spreads. Today is cool (16-20C) and cloudy with no hope of rain until the early hours of the morning and the wind direction is not good news. But they are also saying only level 2 (High) for tomorrow as well but with gusts over 30kph however the wind direction is expected to change overnight and take it away from us. I guess we will be spending the evening watching the reports.

Yeh, tell me about it. it was great being cold. it was actually cold enough for most of the day, to need to wear a cardigan today and my husband having decided we were eating outside at the table out there, went and got himself his fleece! it was still 18C at the time. :scratchhead:

Getting used to the heat then?
I've always been able to manage a dry 30C. it's the dry or humid +35C day after day that still needs work! and I'm not sure I want to practice that one. I'm now looking at days when it is forecast to only get up to 28C with relief and thoughts of great that's much cooler..

"Murcia snow - Snowploughs are working on the A-30 Murcia to Cartagena motorway at the Puerto de la Cadena.
The authorities advised that only one lane is free from snow and traffic jams are occurring.
Difficulties have also been recorded on the RM-19 San Javier to Murcia motorway at Los Martínez del Puerto and the RM-703 at Moratalla due to snow. HGVs have been banned from these three roads as a temporary measure."

I've been to Murcia (albeit 45 years ago) - the elevation is +43m.
