Glad to hear it's better than expected there! I saw a video of a church tower collapsing in the UK.

We've just started an hour ago and it will last till at least 21.00

We are in the middle of the land so bad weather has usually calmed down a bit before it hits us.

Yeah I saw it happned there too. Apparently these stadiums are built similarly.
The Dome was built to house the Millenium exhibition in 2000 (a vanity project for the government at the time). It was only supposed to last for a year before the site was redeveloped. So it has lasted well and is a very successful music and events arena.

I´m down in Kent. My train to London was cancelled. At least half a dozen houses round here have had fence panels ripped off by the wind. Two doors down, a huge branch broke off a tree and landed across two gardens. Winds were up to 60-70 mph around here, but I heard that there was a (record) gust on the Isle of Wight - 122 mph.

The fastest recorded wind speed today so far is 88 miles recorded in a place 2 miles from my house.

Three people have been killed by trees so far. One stadium roof destroyed. All roads have accidents according to the police. Neon signs and fences are flying around. So it's not in vain that they warned us today, stepson is staying a night longer this week because we'd have to drive through dangerous situations to bring him to his mother tonight.

Looks like the worst has passed, but there will still be chaos tomorrow as the authorities have to clean up fallen trees and debris from roads, rails and motorways. And from what I saw on the news, there´s quite a bit.

Big Jet TV is a big name with plane spotters and aviation enthusiasts. He regularly does these live cams in Heathrow but he also travels around the world doing the live cams in other airports. I can't explain why he became so popular with the general public today but he was already well known in the aviation community.

Sometimes something registers on twitter. His feed got picked up by a couple of celebrity tweeters, and while 50 million people sat at home or at work wondering if our under funded and poorly built fences would blow over, we all started watching proper professionals working hard and being glad we weren't sat next to the rear toilets on those planes.

Sideline. I have flown a lot and only once have I questioned my decision. Descending into St Lucia on a BA flight we hit wind shear and the aircraft dropped. The cabin crew screamed, that's how good it was.

I am surprised that planes are being allowed to land in those conditions. That used to be allowed in the US, but not anymore. I remember some white knuckle landings when I was young, but now, you circle the airport, get re-routed to another airport, or go back to your takeoff airport. Just a few months ago, if you remember, I was stuck at DFW airport for about 4 hours because my flight to Houston couldn't take off, due to heavy storms in Houston.

The big game-changer was in 1985 here in Dallas. A Jumbo (L1011 Tri-Star) went down at DFW Airport due to a microburst from a storm. A whole lot of rules changed after that.
