Last night was ... interesting. I went to bed just after midnight. I woke to the sound of thunder just before 3AM, and it was raining. Then just after 3AM I heard the telltale sound of the power lines down the street arching, and the power started going on and off, until it was out completely. I called the electric coop, and their automated system told me that there was an outage in may neighborhood (based on caller ID), and estimated it would be back on by 5AM. That seemed reasonable, since the workers can't work with lightning in the area.

Then, as I was lying in complete silence, I hear what sounded life rushing water, as if I were standing near a waterfall. It slowly grew louder, and I finally went to the window and looked outside. Just as I did, hail started falling on my house. What I heard was an approaching hail storm. The hail wasn't that large -- mostly 1/2 inch to a few 1 inch balls. It went on for about ten minutes.

The power was back on at 4:09AM.

Sort of the same thing here - woken up by thunder and wind gusts at about 2:30AM, then rain bursts over and over, warm front came through, and today, it was in the 60’s…in February. Poured all day, though.

Ours was a cold front. It is 37F now, and we have a chance of sleet and/or snow tonight.

I too was woken by the sound of rain this morning. It lasted about a minute or two maybe. Just enough to show it had tried and failed... 0.2mm of rain recorded.

Maybe we'll get luckier tomorrow?

We have been seeing and hearing thunder most nights. It's just been a case of it going around us. We live on the Great Dividing Range, and to the inland side of us are the fertile plains and the start of the "interior" . It's very typical for storms to come from the coast and die out before they get to us, or conversely rumble across the plains and reach the mountain range and stop... so we often see lightning (with no thunder) from the coast or see lightning & hear the thunder from the plains, but receive no rain from either.
Mind you the last one was a good storm to miss, the lightning was that peach coloured lightning bolts that we've learnt to associate as an electrical storm. These burst frequently ground themselves with the brightest of bolts that even in bed with your eyes closed still hurt the eyes, and that's what we had on Sunday night. It went on for hours.

It’s 57F right now, but that cold front of yours is moving through tonight…29F tomorrow morning, and predicting 20F by Saturday morning.

PS, please send me some rain. I promise not to whinge about it washing away the road (too much)...
We’ve got more than enough right now, it’s been an incredibly rainy February, over twice what we normally get for the month, and we still have a week to go.

We are way low for rain, and the primary reservoir (Lake Lavon) for my area is at 80-percent of the full level. We were at 98-percent a year ago. If that lake is at 80-percent in May, we will be on water restrictions all summer, and well into the fall. Well, unless we have another extremely rare wet summer like we did last year.

Last year (full month of February 91.0mm. I've highlighted the same day)
81386
This year
81387

I can't go further back on my weather station because we only got the digital one in August 2020.

I've just looked at the forecast for the coming 10 days. Let's just say February appears to be trying to catch up on the final few days...

I hope we get some make-up rain. Tomorrow, they are calling for freezing light rain. possibly all day and into the night. I hate that. It coats everything with a thin layer of ice. You can't drive on it. You can't even walk on it unless you avoid any pavement.
