It's snowing
North of us had over 400mm of rain (yep 1 month's worth) in 3hrs.

I could do with just a tiny bit of it here please?
Today is meant to be the wet day. We've had an entire 1.5mm so far since midnight. I don't need all of that 400mm, I'd be quite happy with 10mm or even 20mm if they could spare some.

Everything here that is above the ground is coated with about 1mm of ice. I don't think we got above freezing today. That ice isn't doing anything good for us.

Roads here may as well be coated in a layer of ice. Heavy rain along the lake on the highway which is concrete has left the road slippier than black ice, top that with aquaplaning as you start the uphill climb.... so glad the tyres were replaced on hubby's SUV 3 months ago. Maximum tread helped.

But it hasn't rained much at our end of the lake (largest freshwater maker in Australia, so has it's own weather system...)

But I think heavy rain must be due because they've repaired our road again. The last heavy rain (Boxing day) washed away part of the road about 1½km east of us. Just opposite the ⅓rd of the road that was washed away, a lump appeared. It's been too high to drive over it in anything other than a high 4x4 until just recently. Then it got too high for even a decent clearance to clear it until Tuesday when someone hit it badly and I mean vehicle damage badly. They left vehicle parts behind and had to be towed away... so this morning the road crews turned up with lots on gravel and back fill, road foundation and under road drainage and so on...

But to be honest having seen what they've not done to the part of the road that is getting pushed up (by heavy vehicles) the depression is still there, the mashed up surface has just been flattened. The underlying issue hasn't been resolved.

So I reckon the first heavy rain and we'll be back to where it was... One way, pray the oncoming vehicle notices or is aware and also knows that there is a hole on the good side big enough to lose a vehicle into...

Hence my conclusion rain might just happen!

I wasn't keen on switching to induction but now I'm sold. I used my induction hob for the first yesterday and made a recipe that usually takes me abour an hour to cook in my old gas stove, took me just over 30 minutes 😱 Boiling water for tea wouldn't take me less than 20 minutes, I did it in just over 10 I think. I do love cooking but I'm excited about spending less time on the stove.

The situation is bleak and tense here in Europe, but my way of coping is to pretend there's nothing going on. Of course I know there's a war raging, but there's nothing I can do about it, it's outside of my control, so I'll try to more or less carry on with normal life, albeit with a dark cloud over my head. The joy of the new home feels muted, it's almost not here. Especially because I always wanted to buy a house so I could feel safe in life, and the latest events just erased that illusion of safety.

Thankfully we had next to nothing. Today is lovely and sunny, even warm when out of the wind.

Random thought before bed: Is cauliflower ghost broccoli?

No. And the reason I know that is because a few years ago I bought some white sprouting broccoli. For the life of me can't remember what I made that white purée from.
