There are a couple options, including vinyl flooring which my aunt has installed in my grandma's home, but I don't like the look of any of the low cost options. I could always apply new tiles on top of these ones but, if I need to spend more than a couple €, I think I'd rather save the money, hopefully one day the building will get a new plumbing and then I can redo my plumbing and the kitchen as well.
Wood planking would be fairly affordable with your small sq footage. I did that in my last house that also went into a 'great' room to connect an overall esthetic of hand scraped hickory, just a thought.

That's a good idea and even that pergo looks nice and is cushy on the feet. But if she wants to change her kitchen layout, probably would be best to wait, yes?

Yeah, didn't see that part. I personally wouldn't be doing anything if in the long term the footprint is going to change, money better spent else where.

Yep, I'd like to completely redo with the kitchen including all new plumbing some time in the future. The plumber told me it's no use doing it now because the building's plumbing is old and that will always affect my own plumbing. For now I'll hold on to the money and think about it later :)

Thank you JAS_OH1 !

I love how the cabinets and the counters look, don't love the disposition and hate the floor tiles but I'm not touching them, the plumber says I have all the plumbing on the floor and redoing my plumbing would be worthless because the building's plumbing is old and anything that's on the building's pipes will go into my pipes anyway!

Btw I'm thankful I made the house all electrical, short term I'll be paying more but long term I believe this will payoff, gas is a fossil fuel whereas electricity can be made from a couple different sources.

Yeah, the floor is the thing that really grabs your attention -- not in a good way. I'm guessing 1970s? You'll get used to it, and before you realize it, you won't even notice it.

This makes me grateful that I have a small house

I downsized to 1,620 square feet. I have three bedrooms, and 2-1/2 bathrooms. I need one of the bedrooms for my office. That is my "corporate headquarters." I also have a narrow lot, so I have a small yard to take care of. Most of the backyard is taken up by a two-car garage.

I have vinyl flooring in my kitchen, because I am a messy cook, and it is super easy to clean. You don't want to go cheap on vinyl flooring. It won't last. I paid more, and my kitchen floor is 21 years old, and still looks new.

Same with carpeting. I paid out the wazoo for wool Berber carpeting, and it is also 21 years old. It doesn't look like new, but looks good. It is kind of like old leather furniture, it "matures" with age.

Pergo is laminate flooring. It is a cheaper alternative to wood flooring, and it can be laid down on top of existing floors -- you don't have to tear up the old floors. I had it in my last house. I was mostly happy with it. My dogs hated it. It is very slippery for dogs and cats.

I thought this was helpful though the last one is debatable

About that chart Windigo posted. Mostly correct.

Candy is also candy in the US. Coriander in the US refers to the seeds, the leaves are Cilantro. Trotters is also a term for pigs feet in parts of the US. Otherwise, looks good. :okay:

Oh I thought the distinction was coriander seeds and coriander for the leaves. Thanks for clarifying 👍

The candy and sweets thing is interchangable for both I thought?

You may want to re-read your first sentence, and edit it???

Sweets and Candy are both used here, but sweets is a broader term, that includes pastries, cookies, cakes and pies. Basically anything "sweet."
