Oddly mine has arrived before hubby's...

He's envious...

My bloodwork tests from my new PCP visit last week show that my fasting glucose levels are 106 (normal range is under 100). So my new doc emailed me about it, told me to change my diet, ugh. I love my carbs and beer/wine/booze, what's a girl to do? I don't want to give up either one! I hate whole grain pasta, whole grain bread is acceptable but not pasta. I definitely am not giving up alcohol.

I’m no doctor, but I’ve been there with that conversation, and mine was much higher.

I’d ask your doc to recommend a per meal amount of net carbs you can have and stay within that, do a little exercise (if you don’t already) and see if that helps.

I was allowed 45g-60g per meal and 15g-30g per snack (three a day), which isn’t so bad. I did cut back drastically on alcohol, even after I got things under control.

I basically do very light exercise that consists mostly of stretching, leg lifts, that kind of thing. No cardio. I have one of those Tony Little Gazelle machines, an exercise bike, and some light weights in my upstairs guestroom that have been gathering dust for quite awhile. If my allergies wouldn't make me absolutely miserable (that and the heat) I would go for walks in the metro park across the street, but that's not happening until at least early fall when it cools down and the pollen gets better. I should go dust off the exercise machines and give it a whirl. I have been on a lower weight trojectory for the past 3 years and have lost almost 30 pounds in that time, so maybe just losing another 5 pounds might help. That and increasing my fiber intake. I just started back on my apple cider vinegar tablets again, that's supposed to help.

When I lost all my weight the first time around (80 pounds or so), that was the exercise machine I used. I used it constantly and wore one out, and I’d work it so furiously, I’d bounce it across the room.

But it worked!

The saga of the chimney continues....

We gave up last night and let the fire go out. The house was constantly full of smoke. Open the door and the smoke would come out into the room rather than the chimney.

I had heard something I didn't like come down the chimney during the gales last weekend... after emptying the ash from the stove, I removed the big heavy metal baffle to look into the flue (it's a rear exit flue which is awful)... poking the poker into the hole I hit metal.... Only not where it should have been but at a 45° angle perpendicular to the chimney. The chimney is small, the liner badly fitted and to make life even more fun, the metal plate that has come off is exactly the dimensions of the chimney (10cm x 15cm)... it was acting as a plug....

So having swept the chimney I'm still none the wiser as to where that metal plate has come from, but I'm more just waiting for things to settle before I open the stove door to remove the ton of cresote and tar that has come off...

It's ice cream time while I wait.

Hi, everyone, I'm glad that most familiar names are still at the site. I hope you're all doing fine. I haven't been ill or anything and I'm getting back in the saddle. We're at the countryside catching signal crayfish at the moment. The whole family is ok.

Hey, welcome back, you’ve been missed!

Just got holidays next week, now I have to make up a good plan, so I can meet everyone and do some BBQ
Post some pics of your BBQ, if possible. Have fun!
