Finally told my mother the news. She asked about how the medical appointments went this week. Couldn't really keep hiding it from her. I left her crying. I couldn't hold my composure any longer myself. I'll talk to her again tomorrow. Hope she's OK.

A childhood friend of mine lost a finger because of a ring..He was sliding down the tin roof of a shed and landing in a snowbank..the ring caught a roofing nail that had come out a little and ripped it right off..I never wore a ring again..

Don't be sliding down any shed roofs if you can avoid it...

I mentioned somewhere on here having to get my old Apple TV box returned to the living. Here’s how setting up an appointment with one of their Geniuses at the closest store went:

First, I googled how to get my Apple TV serviced, and it sent me to Apple Support. Went there, clicked a handful of links, and it offered to chat me up via a support bot.

Got going with that, went through about a dozen texts back and forth, named the day that I wanted to bring it in…”Sorry…beep beep…AppleChatBot cannot schedule appointment on 5 Aug…beep boop…date is too far out…please have AppleChatBot select more recent date…clicky click…”

I figured I’d wait a couple of days and try again, so I saved the link.

Tried the link today…link had expired. Went back out to Apple Support, started the chat, bot started in with the questions.

This time, due to dynamic IPs, it thought I was in a city almost three hours away. I had to go around and around to get it to select my closest store.

Then I request a 5 Aug appointment - “AppleChatBot is sorry…beep beep…AppleChatBot cannot schedule appointment that far out…beep boop…AppleChatBot suggests scheduling for 8 Aug…clicky click…”

I explained 8 Aug was farther out than 5 Aug, and after several more questions, it gave up and recommended I call the store directly.

I called the store…ApplePhoneBot sent me a link to schedule an appointment.

Wonder of wonders…I was able to schedule an appointment for the 5th, though I did have to go around and around with my location and repeated attempts to send me to every Best Buy in the state of Ohio first.

Customer service is slowly going extinct, only to be replaced by poorly implemented service bots AI call handlers. 😓
 
Another heatwave in Portugal and it's impossible to sleep with this heat. Doesn't help that I have this quirk where I can only fall asleep if I cover myself with the bed covers or something (ideally, I would be hugging the bed covers for optimum sleep efficiency). As if transitioning from the heavy winter bedding to lighter summry ones isn't hard enough, now I can't fall asleep covered because it's too hot anf I can't fall asleep uncovered because there's nothing on me. This is exhausting. If this climate change thing continues I shall be working remotely from the North Pole half of the year for the rest of my life!
