I lived in London for many years and never visited once!

I went there in 1978, and then took my wife there in 1995.

There is a tourist site in Plymouth Massachusetts called Plymouth Rock. The story behind it is that it is the rock where the Pilgrims made their landing in the new world in 1620. It's not true, but it is what people believe.

Anyway, my wife wanted to see it on our way from Boston to Cape Cod. I told her it was just a rock, but she wanted to see it. We got there, she looked down at it and said, "It's just a rock."

I've definitely visited the Tower at least once - we went a few years ago when they had the moat filled with poppies and it was absolutely spectacular. I may have gone as a child too, but I can't actually remember...but I wasn't so interested in history back then :giggle: The Tower has so much history and I find it fascinating to see how its role has changed over its 956 years of existence.

Co-incidentally the day we visited the Tower, we also visited The Mayflower - the pub where the Pilgrim Fathers actually set sail from, not Plymouth as many people believe (that was just their last stop-off point before heading out across the ocean). Its just over a mile from the Tower as the crow flies.

You mean, as the raven flies? :D

Curiously enough, a mere 15 minute walk from the Tower, there´s an ancient pub called "The Mayflower". Legend has it that the first Pilgrim Fathers gathered there, before leaving to the new world, via Plymouth. The Mayflower

All right, we made it back home ok. I’ll post a bit about it tomorrow. This was definitely one of our more interesting vacations.

Where did you re-enter the US? I've mostly come back from Europe through NYC or Dallas. The last time I went to Europe, I flew from London to Miami. Miami's airport is worse than some third world airports. I hope you didn't have to go through that.

Miami is a wonderful airport! I mean, you only have to walk 3 miles in heavy traffic to Gate 56...

A distance of about the same as Schiphol; arrival from Manchester, depart for one of the Arabian Gulf States. And have 40 minutes to make the connection!
