Scrolling through the headlines this morning, I had to do the online version of a double-take when I scrolled through the World News section:

“Latest Ukraine updates…<scroll>…Myanmar sentencing…<scroll>…UK govt in shambles…<scroll>…North Korean missl…wait, what was that?”
At least my mother will have something to complain about when I ring her tonight. I wouldn't want her to get bored :whistling:

I found out yesterday that my favourite professor from uni, later became my mentor and finally my friend, died this weekend from cancer. I knew she had cancer and that it was terminal, but I really didn’t expect it to be so quick.

She did so much good in the world, and the world is a little bit sadder without her in it.

I don’t think it’s really sunk in yet.

Today I was positively surprised with the services provided by the municipality where I live. There's a light pole right in front of my house that has been on all day since Sunday (the electricity company was doing some sort of work on the streets on Sunday morning, I guess they turned the light on and forgot to turn it off).

I absolutely hate seeing electricity being wasted (especially in these times...), it was seriously upsetting me so I tried to figure out how I could report this to the municipality...I found out my municipality has an app where you can register issues in your neighborhood. I thought "yeah, another government app that does nothing", but I went ahead and reported the issue yesterday.

A couple minutes later I got an email saying they reported the issue to the electricity company. "Yeah, and now when is the electricity company going to fix this...never", I thought to myself.

Guess what, I just got an email from the municipality saying the issue with the light pole has been fixed. I looked out my window and the light is off (like it should be, it's 5PM here and there's still sunlight). Really pleased to see the app actually works and that they were so swift in solving the issue with the light :okay:

Super ambitious LissaC, love to see people care about energy and the environment.

Don't give up Windigo, you deserve a healthy body.

You're really caring for your people, caseydog. My family is almost the opposite, well they wouldn't kill each other, but we don't help each other much.

Generally I wear shoes and not flip-flops as 95% of the population seem to. I also have back problems so bending down to put on shoes is a pain. The solution is a shoe horn you may say; and I agree. However, I've looked in many shops and cannot find anyone who sells them. Shoe shops don't even have them for customers to use.

Yesterday I ordered one from China at $3.00 plus $1.00 shipping. I hate paying 33% extra for shipping but....

It has arrived and works ideally. A good buy for $4.00.

It's finally raining in Portugal:dance: After some months of severe drought we needed rain badly, and if all goes as planned we'll be blessed with a rainy winter.

Overall, I really enjoy this transition period where days are getting smaller, it's getting slightly colder and it's still dark when I wake up (I love waking up in the dark, don't ask me why). I don't do well with cold or heat so I tend to prefer spring and autumn over summer and winter. And I enjoy my nights curled up in bed with a book, some candles on, a cup of tea and a book. There are other interesting activities one could chose in this scenario, but reading is nice too :D

I wish we could get some rain in North Texas. But, it is getting cooler. I'm in Houston right now, and when I got up this morning, it was 46F.
