A about 3 or 4 years ago, a friend of mine went to a local charity auction where one of the lots was a signed baseball cap donated by Lewis Hamilton. My friend started the bidding off at a fiver! I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. For that matter, neither did any of the other people at the auction. The person who won it bid £500 and immediately put in on eBay (or similar).

It's amazing what people spend their money on.

As charity auctions go, that was rather low. Bet it sold for more on ebay though.

OK here's a cracker - we trotted into our local Tesco supermarket today [Halloween] to buy a pumpkin - [experimental pumpkin pie] and - none !!
Yesterday dozens [and I do mean dozens] of the things - today - the very day - not a one, not even the empty boxes. I mean ok tomorrow remove from shelves [supermarket logic] maybe but today :o_o:

In the U.S. the pumpkins sold in the supermarkets are not always the best for cooking. More for carving and decorative use. The farmer's markets will have pumpkin varieties that are good for cooking. This is one of the few times I recommend canned pumpkin for baking. As long as it is pure pumpkin and not pie filling.

Last year my sister purchased several pumpkins for decorative use around Halloween. They were on her front porch and not exposed to the sun. The pumpkins stayed out through Thanks Giving. She moved them to her back deck and basically forgot about them until we got together a couple of days before Christmas to set the tables and decorate for our family gathering. She was using silver as her primary color in her table scape. I saw the pumpkins and had an epiphany. We painted the pumpkins with metallic silver spray paint. Add some greenery and candles - instant centerpiece and mantle decoration. :D

It's getting decidedly chilly here. It was time to retrieve the duvet from the wardrobe last night. The forecast is 21 degC again overnight tonight.

:cold:
