It's getting decidedly chilly here. It was time to retrieve the duvet from the wardrobe last night. The forecast is 21 degC again overnight tonight.

:cold:
When I convert that to Fahrenheit, it sounds quite pleasant - even for a high of the day this time of year. We've had cold weather overnight lately. Last night's low was about 1.5 degC. I put a flannel sheet on the mattress for tonight, but the top sheet is still plain cotton. Temps are going to be a bit (14-15 C) warmer overnight the next two nights and I figured bottom-and-top would be overkill.

There's a guy I know here, a Brit who spent much of his former life in Sweden, has his aircon set at 16 degC! In the summer months ours ticks over at 25 degC but only for a couple of hours or so.

Oh my gosh @Yorky, my teeth would chatter out of my mouth at that temperature! Our A/C is set at 77 F (25 C) during the day and just a few degrees cooler (74 F - 23.3 C) at night. We do have ceiling fans everywhere and use them. Even in winter we never set the furnace any lower than 64 F (17.77 C) when we're home, and that's when we're under the down comforter and winter blanket at night. During the day it can be anywhere from 66 F (18.88 C) when I'm working around the house, up to 67 F (19.44 C) or 68 F (20 C) when we're sitting around watching TV.

Our aircon is unlikely to be switched on until March 2018 now. The fans are used as and when required but on most nights even in the winter months they keep the air moving (nothing to do with my flatulence!).

The A/C was on again yesterday and last night. High temps will be in the 80's through next week so the A/C will remain on. The central heat is not used much. Years ago we converted the wood burning fireplace to LPG. During the coldest winter days it warms all of the living areas of the house. At night we use 2 light weight micro fiber blankets and a down comforter. @Lynne Guinne we also have ceiling fans in all rooms and use them year round. When we travel I have trouble sleeping without moving air.

Stay warm!

Distinctly nippy on the east coast of Scotland this morning. It will still take some effort by the sun to get rid of the overnight frost, however.

Despite the chill, there is one thing you can guarantee. However cold it is, there will be at least one clown walking about in a tee-shirt and a pair of shorts. Today's first contender was taking a small child to school. You really feel like walking up to people like that and asking, "What exactly was it about today's weather that made you think that tee-shirt and shorts was a fantastic idea?"

Miscellaneous food discussions has popped up and that is where the general chat stuff has gone.

Not exactly, more like a yes and a no . I have moved a number of threads out of the Cafe area that didn't meet its requirements of nothing whatsoever to do with food or drink or consuming it... So they are in their correct forums now. The Cafe remains for general chat threads.

Some threads from Miscellaneous food discussions have also been rehomed where they had obvious homes. So if a thread was centred on a piece of meat for tonight's evening meal, it has been put into the meat and poultry forum (where it should really have been in the first place.) Call it house keeping it you will.

I have only closed down 1 forum, the fats and oils forum, and moved most of its threads into healthier eating to Sports Nutrition. The remain other threads had obvious homes in baking (like can I use olive oil instead of butter to hear my baking tin?) or into may and poultry (where the thread was based on duck fat for instance).

Curiously it is no different here in this area of Australia. It can be below freezing outside literally, and workmen in particular will arrive in a thin cotton shirt and shorts. Both my builder and my plumber are especially bad for this. One is from Sussex originally and the other born in Australia!

I use Fahrenheit when referring to the weather. Centigrade temperatures confuse me no end, unless it's when I'm using my oven. I soon know if it's cold overnight; I end up with one Velcro greyhound and two Velcro cats snuggled up to me. If it's really, really cold, cat number 3 takes a deep breath and joins us too. I don't have central heating. If it's chilly, I put a cardigan or thick jumper on, and the dog has an indoor coat.

This morning we went to our local garden centre for a bite of breakfast, they have a clothing outlet in there and we saw a zip up cardigan-perfect for my dad so that is his Christmas present sorted, yes I know it is still early but we won't go back there again this year so makes sense to buy it now. Also bought 2 more orchids is 14 too many
