Well we've bought the landcruiser... It's 20 yrs old, exceptionally well looked after and loved by owner... There's a few bits to be sorted on it which they are getting done for us (new discs and pads, plus exhaust needs anchoring up properly) and they'll get it the equiv of its MOT for us and we'll pick it up in a couple of weeks when we've moved house. It's fully fitted out with roof tent, shaded awning, water tanks in roof, sitting room under sleeping quarters and fridge etc plus there's 2 additional seats (to make 7) which have never been used... And all the other stuff that comes with it etc. Off-road tyres are brand new all round and so on. It runs well, is dual fuel, handles well and has other features not expected like electric sunroof, new stereo system to bluetooth to phone, CB radio, plenty of extra lights and so on...
No more camping then!

It comes with its own tent so plenty of camping, plus there are sites here that are ground tents only. So both tents will get used. I'm just not sure about my ultralight weight tent getting used again any time soon, that's all.

"Camping" in a vehicle is cheating though. Being able to do so would mean less chance of tent usage as you get used to it.

Before you know it, you'll be towing a caravan.

We used to take the kids camping when they were young, proper camping with a tent and all the gear that goes with it. Separate setup for solar shower as well. Gas burner, I made some nice roasts on that sucker. Kids would disappear after brekky and not be seen until tummys were hungry. They were swimming and playing with all the other kids. We now rent houses when we go away at Xmas, but my kids have been talking about taking their kids camping now, they said they loved it as kids. The place we stayed in was called quinnies bush. If you giggle it now it comes up as pretty flash compared to what we had. We drive past there when we holiday in the Nelson area.

Sounds amazing. I bet you can't wait to try it. I hope you are planning your first trip.

Back in the 80s I towed a 14 ft caravan to Brands Hatch/Silverstone every year. Only time it came out of the shed. I'll never do it again!

In Aus there are actually more options for camping in a vehicle than there are on the ground. This is a roof tent. It is still a tent. I just have to climb onto the roof of the tent to get into it. Less chance for anything to eat me here that way!

Hope so. It will be first time in 3 and a bit years that I have been out camping. though the camping gear has been used in this house when we first moved in!

Thought that was the reason for the knives. Self defence.
