Going to Kroger's today. I always park a bit away from it, so I can walk a half-mile there and another half-mile back to get some exercise.

Today, it's 27F/-3C with a windchill of 16F/-9C. I'm seriously considering parking right at the shop! 🥶

When I called on my customers I sometimes had to park in a designated spot, and walk into and down in a quarry. Prolly walked a few miles daily doing that. Maybe even more. I thought of it as exercise as well. Pita on a wet day.

Which is Pancake Day!

And Fat Tuesday, or Mardi Gras. Laissez les bons temps rouler!

Then comes Wednesday morning (if you have to work), when you get you a big styrofoam bowl of Yaka Mein, (aka: yakamee) Chinese/ Vietnamese/Creole (???) hangover noodles.

Okay, I had to come back and EDIT. This is a Mercan soup very few Mercans have even heard of. Nobody really knows its origin. It really is good, especially as the bars close down. Ive never had it the morning after, but have eaten it as a pre-emptive strike before going to bed. It works.

"Ms. Linda" is legendary for this one dish. It is now making its way to other cities.

Instead of a recipe, I figured a video would give you a better idea of what this mystery food is.

Another new dish to me. It looks and sounds very Korean and/or Chinese.

Nobody really knows. New Orleans is a melting pot, and after the war, a lot of Vietnamese settled between New Orleans and Houston. But the true story of Yaka Mein is very fuzzy.

But not all of us can watch YouTube videos. They don't play well with satellite broadband (or with slow lag times (usually 4 figures), strict data caps (50Gb per month for everything) or just being slow connection speeds (5Mbsp, though between 1am and 7am, I can get anything up to 20Mbps)).

So it will remains to remain a mystery to some sadly.
