Yeah, my sister was telling me about it (she knows Elaine). State Department and all that. She's been getting all the inside buzz about what's going on over the past 24 hours. You know she's (Elaine) married to Mitch, right?

And isn't it interesting that some of those protestors just happened to have chemical sprays on them at the rally, before Trump suggested marching on the capitol? They knew they were going to do something in advance. And the two explosive devices they uncovered. And protestors who had weapons. And what gives with all those backpacks? Anyone notice many of the protestors (varying ages) were wearing backpacks?
I admit that I didn't see all that. I couldn't bear to watch after a few minutes. I, however, am not surprised that people came ready for a fight. That's been his battle cry since before the election (dropping seeds of doubt about the election process).

I had a hard time tearing myself away from the TV, watching the train wreck. I admit that time of day I am generally watching my stock channel shows on CNBC (Closing Bell, Fast Money and Mad Money) and all of those were pre-empted by the bat-chit crazy storming of the Capitol.

My father was a war veteran: WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He passed away in 1992. He would have been horrified over the past 4 years and it likely would have killed him. He would have hated Trump for so many things, being a draft dodger and slamming John McCain to name a few, but he could spot a liar and would have known immediately back in 2015 that something stunk in Trump's britches.

I've been waiting since he took office for a lone wolf to take him out.

I don't really watch tv. I have never been a fan but I did watch the news. I stopped watching the day that it was reported that Susan Smith drowned her children. I remember going to church every day after work to pray for her children to be found (she claimed they had been kidnapped during a car jacking). I came home and my then bf (now ex-h) told me the devastating news. My heart broke for those poor babies. I haven't really missed much. Anything "big" gets around anyway and I have avoided the death and mayhem and awful news for decades now. No wonder people are walking around more depressed than ever. The human psyche isn't designed to handle 24/7 negativity.

I thank you for your dad's service. People think joining the military is just a job but the WHOLE family commits to serving when someone enlists. I am grateful to all the men and women that suit up to serve our country. - With gratitude.

I followed that story, we had a dentist here (where I used to go later in life) when I was about 11 or 12 went home from work to find his wife had an episode and killed their three kids as they arrived home from school. Very very sad even to me then as a kid.

I remember all of that quite well. It was shocking indeed. She killed them so she could be with her love interest I think? Who ended up not being interested in her even with her not having those kids (before it came out that she murdered them).

I am super proud of my dad, he was an amazing man. He managed to live through those wars, flying multiple missions, and he retired as a Colonel after Vietnam. He was actually shot down in Vietnam and lost his navigator but the rest of the crew survived and were rescued, and then he got back in another plane and flew the Ho Chi Minh Trail missions all over again.

Flareships (read this link, very interesting information about the Blind Bat Missions).

That's my dad, the tall guy in the back second from the right.

Thank you all for your kind words.

I was actually born at Andrews AFB near D.C. and my parents lived in D.C. when I was born, later moving to a house in Arlington, VA. Edited to add that he packed us all up and moved us to Okinawa from 1967 to 1970, then Daddy retired to Destin, Florida after the war, where I lived most of my life (until I met my husband). I probably got to know a much softer side of him post-war than my 5 siblings (all older) did.
