Once when we were diving off the coast of Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood in the area where the depth goes from 35-40 feet nearly straight down to 100+, these 2 giant rays, I mean huge, like around 13-14 foot wing spans, came in from the deep, swam a wide circle around us, then headed back out. It was so cool when things like that happened. I guess they were sight seeing at the strange wild life (us) as much as we were them.

It rained last night... at one point the rain rate was 118mm/hr! Luckily it only lasted for 15-20 minutes and dropped to a more sensible rate but we still had almost 40mm of rain. Needless to say the road is closed again today from the main end (so no post which is annoying because we were waiting for it...) But given the volume of rain...

This is an example taken from inside the house last night. Remember that we are less than 40m from the summit of the mountain we live on.

This was our lawn. It had an unexpected wash.

I'm guessing that there trees down and that the road has been washed away yet again.

The stats from my weather station show the front coming, the rain and the temperature drop quite clearly. It was another 10°C cooler in 10 minutes job....

Rain rate (118.8mm/hr is 4.7 inches per hour)

Australia loves doing thing "properly" :roflmao:
And when it rains...

(We also had hail big enough to dent vehicles, leave us worrying about our chooks and gales enough to bring many more trees down... Not to mention the constant thunder and lightening, and the fact that we couldn't see the dams less than 200m away because of the rain! You couldn't photograph it because there was simply nothing to see. )

We're due another couple of such events this week and weekend.

Garden always needs rain.

It's only useful when it is light enough for the ground to absorb. This just runs off taking roads and mountainside with it.

Most of the garden just flooded and simply had the top soil washed away which is less useful. The chooks demonstrate this superbly when they did themselves their dust baths. They only have to dig 5-10cm down and its dry.

Just got back from the doc. I won't get my blood work results for a few days, but the good thing is, the 15 lbs I lost from Aug-Nov have stayed off. I'm at 182lbs.

Also, my blood pressure was lower this time around. I take meds for HBP, and even with that, it's usually around 135/90. This time...128/85. Probably due, in part, to the weight loss.

My next goal with the weight is to get into the 170's. We'll see if I can do that by April 15th. 🤞

Also on the health front, it's a new year for employer-provided health insurance, and like a lot of places, they provide incentives for healthy behaviors. The biggest one is not charging me a tobacco-user's surcharge.

Other than that, though, we can track things and get points, and that equates to money in our health spending accounts. I can earn up to $800US, depending on the activities I complete.

Some are easy, like "Take A Tour Of The App," and just by completing a little five-minute tour, I get 10 points. Some are a little more involved, like walking a certain number of steps every day, or getting a yearly checkup done, and others are more involved still, like participating in a sponsored fitness event, or taking part in a telephonic health coaching event.

So far, I've earned $450, and I think I'll be able to get really close to the full $800 this year, as they've added several activities, due to the pandemic, that can be done from home.

Good work TastyReuben. Keep it up. I am humbled.

Windchill of 7F/-14C this morning, and the coldest day this week is still waiting. :cold:
Wow, that's cold - but it's even worse here.

From today's 22F to next Thursday's -7.6F. Apparently I have to get up at 6:30 am for several days to take hubby to work. Our old Volvo (only car) has to be kept in the garage and wrapped in a wool(l)en scarf 🤔.
