So both of your parents need more assustance and are ready to move into a senior community?
The community they are moving to has three levels. They will start in the self-care level. They will have a rather large apartment, with a full kitchen. The kitchen has all GE stainless steel appliances, just like they have at home. It has hardwood floors throughout (for my mom's walker), and 1 1/2 baths. The main bathroom has grab rails for my mom. They don't really need assistance, at this point. My dad will still have his car, for now. It is very close to shopping and dining, and only six miles from their Country Club.
From there, if/when they need it, they can move to assisted living. Then there is more intensive long-term care available. They even have a memory care unit should dementia become a problem.
The community has a restaurant/dining room, but they can still cook, so won't need that, yet. But they can use it if they don't feel like cooking at times. There is also a coffee shop, with snacks and ice cream. If my dad doesn't feel like driving, or when he can no longer drive, the community has transportation to stores and doctor's offices. My dad turns 90 next June, and the process for renewing his driver's license will be difficult. He'll have to prove he can still drive safely.
The main thing is, they will be out of their gigantic (especially by European standards) two story house, with a big yard and a swimming pool. The community has all of that.
