The General Chat Thread (2025)

That’s double what we have 😂 Edit: Hmm I might check that at some point, the person who told me that isn’t a reliable source.
Solar powers come on a long way, you don’t have to have bright skies to make it worthwhile anymore.
Although I suspect all those trees around your place would scupper solar power for you anyway 🤷‍♀️
Yes that's true. Heavily wooded to the point we only have one small spot to grow vegetables and herbs.

Power came up right as MrsT was pizzing and moaning about how “the power probably won’t be back until Wednesday, just in time to lose it again!”

All in all, out for 14 hours.
I was gonna drive down and help you BBQ grill all your freezer meats. :hungry:

Seriously though, I'm very glad you got power back.

Not much time to create in the kitchen lately:cry:BUT...I just noticed this. I'm proud of being a part of this wonderful community, and just stopping by gives me a sense of calm, even though I don't have much to share lately. 😍

Woke up in a foul mood due to some irritating BS that’s going on at the moment, thought SOD THIS and took the day off!

Went to the garden centre which has changed enormously since I last went there 20 years ago (it’s now jumbonormous) spent 3 hours looking at stuff and being advised by their very knowledgeable staff about what would likely survive coastal weather (particularly the fearsome wind).

Had a lovely time. The plants might not have been my first choice but I’m very happy with them knowing they are designed to survive where I’m putting them.

Even picked up gardening gloves that fit really well. Let’s see if I actually use them 😂

Did you forget the knee things? Makes less laundry keeping the clothes clean!

Back home
Did my shopping.
Got 2 gas bottles exchanged (different brands, so different locations)
Got money from the ATM and we have new notes. Biggest was 100 kw (about 3.50 U$, biggest now it 500 kwacha.

Filled up the car and a fuel container.
Bought one of those car starter battery thingies (in case of empty battery and mine's automatic, so no push starting)

Picked up the car/camping fridge/freezer that I bought in South Africa and that a friend of mine brought into Zam.
Just loaded it and fits a case of bombers (12 bottles of beer, 750 ml each) and 8 tonics.
Now to see how long it takes to cool them from a start temperature of 35 oC.

Rest was grocery shopping.
And now remember I forgot to take my red wine out of the car....
