What’s the next kitchen item you plan to buy?

They are usually found in grocery stores in the same place as fresh eggs, with other egg products like Egg-Beaters.

I've never seen or noticed them there. Actually, I didn't know that they were availible for home use.

You have to look for them, as they are often tucked in a corner of the egg section.

It wasn't a planned purchase, but an impulse buy today. We were at grocery and in the aisle that has water on 1 side and grilling products on the other. We were getting water but I saw something out of the corner of my eye that caught my attention. Little domes to cover hamburgers to melt cheese, but also big enough to make the cheese skirt hamburgers. So, now we are the proud owners of mini domes and cheese skirt burgers are in our near future.

I bought a dome about 6 months ago, it’s big enough to cover two large or three small burgers. I am very pleased it. It melts the cheese very well. Tbh I wish I’d bought it sooner!

They do sell them in the sandwich section of Morrisons. I bought them once, they tasted weird.
A bit pricey too.

I love peeled quails eggs 😋

Oh! One of the reviews says:

They taste fine, but Im angry that I didnt even think to check the value for money. If you buy two scotch eggs instead, remove the pork meat and throw it away, you still end up paying 50% less than these cost! Thats just annoying!

As for quail's eggs its definitely cheaper to buy them uncooked, if you know the trick to shelling them hard-boiled...

Not much difference in price between uncooked and cooked and peeled in Waitrose, just 70p!

But what‘s the trick to shelling them them, enlighten us 😊

Update on the pressure cook easy peel method. It works!
The first one I peeled while it was still quite warm because I wanted to cube it and that was harder to do but still much easier than usual.

Four others I allowed to cool for a lot longer in icy water and they were very easy, though this may have been because I rolled the shells and they cracked into little pieces that stayed stuck to the membrane. That doesn’t usually happen with thick shells.

The shells in the 2nd pic are empty the eggs are next to them.

They came out without any chunks of eggs missing 👍
You still have to start them off though by getting your thumb into that first bit and after having my hand in water on the sixth egg my digit was starting to get that ‘peeling eggs’ feeling so I’m hoping the steaming and the shake ‘em up gadget together might make up the holy grail 😆

One thing I’d change next time is not to lay the eggs on their side because in some of them it forced the air pocket that‘s usually at the bottom of the egg to it‘s side. Meaning the obvious place to start peeling was gone and that‘s harder on the fingers than it needs to be.

It also meant one side of the egg on some of them was quite thin which wasn’t aesthetically pleasing when halved for devilling.

Just came back from Whole Foods. Didn't see the peeled hard boiled eggs where the raw ones are. Asked someone in the meat dept. He told me to check the salad bar, & there they were!! Who would've thought that they were over there?!! Now I know where to go when I want them!! Picked up 7 of them. No more fighting to get perfectly peeled hard boiled eggs!! I'll do it THIS way whenever I want hard-boiled eggs for potato salad!! All that I have to do is slice them. Saves a lot of headaches!! :whistling:
