What’s the next kitchen item you plan to buy?

I buy microfiber towels at COSTCO for cheap. They are in the Automotive area of the store. They are very absorbent.

Microfibre towels have environmental issues with micro plastics coming off them and into the waterways and so on. Plus they are also made from plastic which is a petroleum based product. Sadly they also don't decompose but just breakdown into smaller plastic particles.

I also find that they catch on my skin whenever we've used them in a vehicle in the past and I don't like that feeling they have.

My preference is for less environmentally problematical products. At least with cotton (towels) no one has found that issue yet (that I know of).

we have moved away from "kitchen towels" to "bar towels"
they are smaller, not so expensive, and for us are 'just the right size' to use and put in the wash due to "raw stuff"
ala:
Amazon.com

being a scratch cook, I my hands get gooped up with all manner that needs a wiping - which one does not wish to hang up and transfer to stuff 'later'
these are smaller, just right for 'doing the chicken/meat/pork/etc.'
most "kitchen towels" are larger and create an image of "waste"

our kitchen "basket full"

I have a whole load of small hand towels that come with a hanging loop, all from Ikea. Not their most basic range but one or two up from the bottom. They're very cheap, and so far have been going for 5 years or so. I think they were about AU$2.50 when we bought they years ago. That's about £1.25 each. They're all white for certain stuff. The coloured hands towels we have, arrived after my parents left Australia after their 6 month covid-vacation here.

I just throw the whole lot, along with the knitted dish cloths into the washing machine on a 60°C allergy wash along with the bedding.

Long oven gauntlets.
I have bites on both arms that range ovens are famous for!

Didn’t have quite the same problem with the last range because the shelves slid out easily, not so with this oven. They will take a while to arrive as the place I bought them from don’t return to work after Christmas until the 9th January, how nice!

My issue with kitchen towels is I can’t keep them looking nice. I like ones with colored stripes or a checked pattern, but they get stained after first use, it seems, and I can’t really bleach them, and regular washing detergent doesn’t quite do the job.

I’m faced with either buying plain white (so I can bleach them) or having two sets - nice display towels that don't get used and ugly towels that get used, but hidden away.

Shame on me.

My kitchen towels are for cleaning up messes, not making the kitchen look nice, so I'm used to stained towels. When they are too stained for kitchen use, they are moved to the garage for more use there.

I fully accept there maybe some pee taking when I fess up to this purchase.
This is what happens if I take a day off, I start thinking (more than usual) about recipe’s and there’s a certain devilled egg recipe I really like but peeling enough boiled eggs to satisfy everyone here is impossible without destroying my fingers so…. I’m kind of changing my mind about sharing.. .. .. 😬

Do you have an Instant Pot? I've read in several different places that eggs cooked in the instant pot are super easy to peel.

Gosh - does it really work? I'd agree about egg peeling. Not long ago I discovered that if you steam eggs the shells simply slip off. And... I 'fess up to buying an easy way to steam them:

Just got a fat separator and a new measuring cup that's just the perfect size to heat the water for the yeast I use in my bread. Also ordered an Instant Pot that should arrive Jan 15

I have a couple of those glass measures. They are really useful and also the right size for a stick blender.

That's what I've read online, but I have yet to try, my Instant Pot didn't arrive yet. I haven't figured out what method they use though.
