What did you cook/eat today (December 2017)?

Saturday night's dinner BTW was 2 large potato cakes (made with potato, swede, carrot and Brussel sprouts) topped with a fried egg each, and a mince pie and yoghurt for afters. No photo - I couldn't wait long enough for the steam to dissipate.

Not just apple pie: praline apple pie. Those chunks you see our cashews ( I thought I had pecans, so this was my second choice). I realized just after adding the filling that I forgot to add a thickener. So, it's probably closer to an apple crumble with the crust than an actual apple pie.

It will be a present at my second Xmas I hope (first Xmas is here, 2nd Xmas is after that in Saffron Walden with my friend). I'm hoping for a compact one which retails around £100 inc. the vac pac. I can't see that I need a large one.
Bear in mind economies of scale. Some recipes can take 5 days (brining/curing, 72+ hours cooking) so it makes sense to do a larger batch and freeze some.

Right up my street! I'm thinking Indian restaurants are a bit thin on the ground where you are? In the UK there will be quite a lot in a medium sized town and often in small towns and villages. Where I live in Maidstone, Kent there are at least 25! Even in Saffron Walden which is a picturesque small town (where I often stay) there are 5 or 6! We are curry mad in the UK...
We can get a curry delivered, even living in a small rural village miles from the nearest town. We did so last night. After working all day and braving Tesco for a final shop for essentials we were brain dead, so a curry was the only realistic option.

I hate to think how many Indian restaurants and takeaways there are where I live, but apparently the most popular cuisines in the UK are now British and Italian  with Indian and Chinese topping the takeaway lists.

Here in the Midlands there are Indian restaurants galore! To be honest I much prefer to frquent the Turkish restaurants, tasty light and healthy whereas Indian food can be heavy when covered in sauce.

Thank you Dear .. Bought a new notebook just to write all down .. I will do a post on Venezia ..

We shall take a good working camera too ! Yes, I will tell you all about my adventures in Venezia and Veneto .. My husband speaks good Italian and I can read it fairly well, so we shall be able to get some recipes too !!!

Venezia is a playground, as most big cities are, so lots of Prosecco, wines and cocktails on a slow burner .. I really prefer good wines verses hard liquors .. I love Prosecco .. So, I shall be right at home !!! Our Verona native friend is an amazing Professional Photographer so he will be guiding us around some of the lesser popular touristic places .. and I had spoken to Giovanni so yes, he said, I can drive you there and we can do a lunch in the 2 towns mentioned .. They are not too far from Venezia (San Marcos ).

Buon Natale ..
Merry Christmas ..

"El bicerin" (il bicchierino-the little glass) is a very small cute pub in Venezia where we had aperitivo...white wine or prosecco glass and a plate with salame and cheese. Very nice.

Verona amazing. A lot of Pandoro, the cousin of Panettone. :)

The only Indian restaurant I've ever eaten at was in Devonport, New Zealand.
