What did you cook or eat today (April 2025)?

Interesting! One of the iconic dishes in the east of London is pie, eel and mash, drowned in "liquor" - which is made with the stock from the eel and piles of parsley.
Back a long time ago, eels were common in theThames, but when the river became polluted, the eels were brought over from Holland on barges.

We have eels at lake ellesmere about 30 mins away. I have a friend who catches them and smokes them. Really really good

All this talk about hotdogs made me hungry, so I nipped down to the supermarket and bought some frankfurters.
The only hotdog buns I could find were tiny, so I bought a deli roll. Homemade mustard, sauerkraut, sausage, fried onion and bacon bits, ketchup and mayo, plus some homemade dill pickles.

Lunch which was great.

Evening meal, in still trying to get rid of the taste of the baked beans. At some point, my OH must have picked up 1 wrong tin in the mix. We always get the Australian low salt Heinz beans, not the English recipe ones. Even my OH commented that they tasted odd when I carefully asked they tasted OK to him.

The English recipe has way too much salt and not enough tomato taste in it. Maybe I need to try making my own?
