What did you cook or eat today (February 2025)

Had no intention of cooking today to the extent I dug out two emergency tins of M&S curry (I keep them in for late flight returns or delays) for then the first born to say they’d cancelled rugby and he would be here for lunch after all.

So two tins of dubious curry turned into at least to 2-3 litres of curried chicken soup topped with crispy shallots and some mini bhajis I found hiding in the freezer.

Went down well, except with me who wasn’t planning to cook 😂

I am sure your sons are the envy of many young men in that instead of going to a restaurant or eating FF or even worse, trying to cook something for themselves, they just call mum and say, "I'll be over".

My Mom is like "You know where the kitchen is..."
Yeah, my mom would have been asking where I was taking her to eat (with me footing the bill, of course).

We'd better stop now, LOL.

I haven't cooked anything today yet, just drinking tea ATM. I will have a simple breakfast of 1/2 English muffin, strip of bacon, and a fried egg at some point this afternoon. We are probably both going to have prime rib tonight at the restaurant we are going to as it's on special. Haven't been buying much in the way of steaks lately as there haven't been any good sales, so prime rib sounds nice!

One of them loves cooking and is good, the other has a decent palate but no desire to do it for himself if there’s an alternative, I think I’m that alternative 😂

He’s gone off to do something with his friends in Bristol but said on leaving he’ll be back for Sunday lunch.
I said that’s great, what are you cooking us? 🤣

Edit: and then put a click n collect grocery order in because I’m a total sucker for Sunday lunch.

Two hasselback potatoes with butter, salt, and smoked paprika, collard greens with garam masala and Aromat, and lastly two pieces of pork that were brined overnight and then BBQ'ed with the Tamarind/Chipotle sauce.

I've had the meanest ono-s (that's Hawaii speak for I really want to eat ...)
IMG_5010.JPG

... mashed Potatoes with gravy and it's friends seasoned Peas and a Hamburger Patty - all drowning in Mushroom Beef Gravy.
Whenever I de-frost a pound chub of ground beef for Cheese Burgers, I grill 4 patties, pulling two when still mid-rare and save them for another meal, like this, Hamburger Steak!
DH requested steamed White Rice rather than mash this evening - he said, "I'm not really liking mashed potatoes any more."
This from the man who's from the East Coast of the USA and me being born & raised-lived the majority of my life in Hawaii, where Rice rules supreme .... don't get me wrong, Rice & Gravy are a staple side dish in Hawaii :hungry:
