What did you cook or eat today (January 2022)?

A big cinnamon roll as a treat today

In fact that big that it took me two turns to eat it. It's from an American store that's come to our country recently, I guess Cinnabon might sound familiar to some here?

Yeah, Cinnabon has been in Canada for decades. I try and stay away from these because they have magical properties and put people under a spell that you can barely resist, so beware.

I liked it, but because it was so much I actually don't see myself eating it frequently. It got a bit sickly and I fed part of it to my husband.

Sounds ironic because I have a serious sweet tooth, but I guess I am more used to European sized pastries.

Cinnabon, maybe in the mid '80's to mid '90's...that's why you went to shopping mall, to hit the food court for a Cinnabon.

I used to specify that I wanted a middle one, so soft all the way around, and I'd ask them to scrape up any of the melty goo from the tray and pour it over as well, and I'd get two extra little tubs of the cream cheese frosting to spread over.

God, I hate to think what the calories and fat count was on that, but it was about the best thing ever.

The closest one to me nowadays is about 15 minutes down the interstate, at a truck stop. I don't know why, but it just doesn't taste the same these days.

I'll add that the "Quicker Cinnamon Rolls" recipe from ATK is a very, very close approximation of a Cinnabon roll, and they're about four hours from start to finish (hence "quicker" and not "quick"), and are the ones I made Christmas morning and posted here:

It's that time of year again: Christmas 2021

If anyone wants it, let me know and I'll post up the recipe.

Well, more of that cream cheese topping does sound good! But not available for delivery.

In Portuguese, lingua means tongue. By adding -ica as a suffix, you get a diminutive form . There´s no evidence that this sausage ever contained tongue; only pork. Linguica is just a name for the sausage.
Wiki is notoriously innacurate on a number of issues!

That's one ugly tongue.

I've just done chicken enchiladas using a recipe I found on the internet. I hate tomatoes to the point where I won't eat anything that tastes even slightly like them. Bit of a drawback making Mexican good really.
The recipe I found uses vegetable stock to make the sauce with just a bit of tomato puree and a few herbs and spices.
I haven't made these for almost 2 years so it was a nice change. The family enjoyed them anyway.

It was stunning. I've added the menu (I'll rotate the substitutions menu in a moment). One of the mains had to be pulled over from the a'la carte menu to keep everything dairy free for me but they went out of their way to help and wow, it was fantastic. It really was. I'd happily go back and eat exactly the same thing again, if only I could.

It all looks amazing and right up my street. You must post the menu in the new thread: Menus to drool over

I haven't just used wiki to create our own db (various sources have been used and referenced) but I hadn't found evidence that it was tongue.
Where a wiki article is down as needing citation or clarification, I've gone elsewhere.
All I have found is that the word stems from old Greek (lūcānica) naming rectum, but here is not the place to continue the discussion.

My breakfast this morning is a bowl of oats with shredded coconut and coconut spice granola mixed in.

No picture this time. If you've seen one bowl of oats, you've seen most all bowls of oats.
That's how I feel about breakfast sandwiches, which is why I rarely post photos of them though I make them from scratch for hubby 2-3x per week.
