Catching up with family in Melbourne. Tonight we ate at Jim's Greek Taverna.

Picky Eater asked me to use up the veggies in her refrigerator. So a mixed vegetable frittata and acorn squash & pear soup. She marveled that I didn't use recipes.

Some of my best meals have been tossed together with no recipe.

Some of the best cooks I know won't cook anything, or next to nothing, without a recipe written by somebody else (you know who you are). Too bad, because I think they are missing out on one of life's simple pleasures. Imagine it. Cook it. Eat it.

I see something I like and find the closest recipe to it as a "guideline" and make it my own.

Just arrived in Panama City. It was later, so we decided to eat at the hotel restaurant, which turns out to be excellent.

Fish tacos with far too many onions, but a terrific pineapple sauce:

What they called chicken mignon. It was more like chicken wrapped with bacon. But, it was still delicious. Served with a thick wine sauce.

Grilled chicken sandwich; my wife had ordered this in every country we’ve visited. This was a solid one:

And, a damn good IPA. There are a lot of watered down lagers here (yes, I tried a few), but this is excellent:

We have watered-down lager. Bar management can't grasp that leaving a fridge on all the time is cheaper than turning it off overnight. So for the first few hours of opening, beer is served with ice (mine isn't - however much it hurts me to say, I prefer warm beer than beer with ice).

Couple of more great dining experiences today, lunch at the famous (In Australia) Lucy Lius, and dinner at another great Asian fusion place called Rock, Paper, Scissors. Too many dishes to list, pics courtesy of my food loving Niece. Still in Melbourne.
