What did you cook or eat today (January 2025)

The second Red Ranger Pie followed by Panna Cotta.

Did these pies in individual pie dishes so they can be reheated faster.

You can’t tell from the dark pic but it’s Blueberries in a strawberry sauce (because that’s what needed using up).
For a change I cut the fruit into small pieces and added them to the strawberry compote when it was cold to retain the lovely texture of the blueberries.
Added an extra little jug of compote for reloading the Panna Cotta if wanted, which it was.
Would definitely do the extra fruit again.

Also no-one could tell it was dairy free which is a big win!
Mr SSOAP asked if he could have it again on his birthday, which pleased me greatly, I wanna do a little dance, small effort for big reward, my favourite 💃 😂

We had a "borrel & babbel"
Basically drinks & talk with sone Dutchies in the capital and one of the ladies decided we needed pancakes.
Now the one I look forward to is closerto end of month at the Dutch consul's residence and involvels herring and bitterballen :)
Bitterballen sounds interesting. That must be one thick stew!

Another of my favourites, my take on a Nasi Goreng.

Windigo I'm sure you've had them and I always wonder why they didn't spread world wide as everyone seems to like them

I made bitterballen at home, cheating a little by using minced meat
You’re passing out apples like the greengrocer, so I gave you one…and bitterballen sound scrumptious!

Belgium has it's big brother ( kroketten) too, but yeah it's odd to me too. Especially cheese bitterballen seem universally likeable.
But people in general seem to think nothing in Dutch cuisine is worthwhile, and while it's not one of the big cuisines of the world it definitely has it's charms.
Most people also forget the Netherlands is the worlds largest exporter ( per capita) making sure almost everyone eats something Dutch once in a while.

So true
Yes I like kroketten as well, but I find bitterballen easier to make at home and they make a much better bar snack.
(But please: no cheese (I'm the exception to the rule))
And vlammetjes...
Leaving that to you to explain Windy

I think SatNav said she had to refresh the reaction emojis to get something else worked out, and now that apple is included in the standard set - it apparently is granted when you find someone’s post to be particularly useful (like this post right now, hint hint… ).
That's very apple of you.
