What did you cook or eat today (January 2025)

Ah ‘TVP’ textured vegetable protein. You get that soy bean mince stuff over there then?
Yes. Comes in different grades, or sizes of pieces. I'll use it at times to stretch a ground beef dish or to add some texture to something. You use it?

Mexican markets usually carry it so far as I've seen across 2000 miles.
Yeah, here in the midwest US there aren't very many Mexican markets. There is one in a less than savory neighborhood but I am not inclined to go there...I wouldn't be looking for the TVP anyway. I'd be more inclined to buy rice, beans, and tortillas.

No my uni room mate went through a phase of healthy eating when TVP was the only real alternative to give a dish a meaty texture, as we shared food and cooking I had my fill of it 30 years ago 😂
You can get it in any health food shop here.

I bought some about two years ago when I was experimenting with flask meals as those noodle cup things are usually just soy pieces.
Discovered I’m not over my TVP internment 🤣

Yes, TVP has its own niche...

We did have the meatball subs on the homemade brioche buns and they were really, really good. Not really pretty--I took a photo but it's not remarkable so not gonna bother posting it. The bread was soft but sturdy enough to hold the mountain of meatballs, sauce, and cheese. It was good enough for me to have a small amount for my breakfast (which I actually ate before 4 PM).

I am baking 2 pounds of bacon right now. We are having bacon cheeseburgers tonight. I have just enough brioche dough left to make 2-3 small burger buns (I like a slider size burger). Will probably make some frips to go with them (fried "chips" of thinly sliced potatoes) if DH wants them.
