What did you cook or eat today (July 2021)?

I have a funny story about "Slap Ya Mama" seasoning. My cousin's now deceased husband put it on everything. I remember the first time I made spaghetti with meatballs from scratch for them when visiting them at their home in SE Texas (approximately 10 miles from the Louisiana border) about 6 years ago. I cooked the sauce all day and made some really great meatballs using Italian sausage and lean ground beef. I used fresh Italian herbs and lots of roasted garlic. My cousin laughingly warned me that he would probably put "Slap Ya Mama" on it, so before we ate, I asked him to please taste it first, confident that the flavors were intense enough to keep him from adding anything else to it. He cordially agreed to taste it first. He eyed the meatballs suspiciously, moving one around with his fork, and asked me in his Duck Dynasty voice, "What is this meat?" I responded, "Pork and beef." He had a good size bite of meatball, sauce and spaghetti, and chewed it gingerly. He looked at me and then said, "Can I add my SYM to it now?" Of course I said yes, though I was quite disappointed. Ah well. He did finish his plate. I was pretty sure that the Cajun seasoning and the Italian herbs were going to clash, but apparently not to him

See Recipe - Medtran49's gumbo z'herbes for a Creole/Cajun spice recipe. We keep a jar of it made up and ready to use. You can adjust the cayenne for spice heat tolerance as needed. If you don't want to make so much, just use teaspoons instead of tablespoons.
It's going to probably take me awhile to get through the "Slap Ya Mama" and "Tony Chachere's" that I bought while in SE Texas, but I am looking forward to giving your spice blend a whirl eventually!

Which leads me to butcher another rock classic:

Here comes the food I am receiving
Wontons, spring rolls, and a giant plate of noodles
They are coming out here way too fast
My mouth's full, and my stomach's soon to follow
When I was a child I ate a pound of chips*
So much grease, so right back up they came
Now I've got that feeling once again
You all like to eat, you prob'ly understand
This is frequently how I am
I have become uncomfortably full

:thankyou:

*what some of you refer to as crisps

Well I don't think the dessert is a classic Thai dessert, LOL. The Thai food looks home prepared, TR?

Last night I made for dessert a rolly polly pudding. Spongey self saucing syrupy pud. We all loved it,
Recipe came from an e mail from a friend of my wife's, I came across it in my folder of recipes. She said it was nice. It was but I should have cooked prior to serving as I did it earlier and it dried out a bit . 7 min in the microwave so it was quick.
Cup of earl this morning. School holidays here next two weeks so grandkids will appear anytime soon for a stay.

No, we're still on vacation, so it's at a restaurant. I'm surprised my wife wanted to go back, as we ate there (takeaway) the night we arrived, and they were hellaciously rude, and MrsT can hold a grudge with one hand, but that's where she wanted to go.

The dessert was good, I liked it a lot, because it was an orange-vanilla cake, which I don't see out very often in Ohio, and I love just about anything orange. She ordered that and we split it.

Had I ordered dessert, too, she probably would have gotten banana-filled fried wontons, drizzled in honey and served with coconut ice cream and we would have split both.

Every once in awhile you throw in pics, I wish you would do that more often. I mean, I wouldn't want to see a cuppa Earl every day, no, but a cookie every once in awhile would be nice, LOL!

Well I too would have liked the orange vanilla cake. But I would ADORE the banana-filled won tons. And rude restaurant workers? UGH. I would be a bit worried about that, and no, I DGARA how good the food is, I wouldn't go back.

My wife goes nuts when she sees me take pics, teases me about the Internet, lol. I take any pics I can without her knowledge. I am aware of it though, I do try, lol. :)

I can relate to that. IMO, this isn't just the Internet, this forum is so much more. We are a group of kindred spirits. But some people don't get it. There are people here who understand the way I think and feel, my passion about food, far more than some of my real-life friends will ever do.

Sometimes hubby asks me if I am going to take pics and I don't, telling him I am plating it beautifully just for me. I do that sometimes and then look at it for a bit before eating it. Sometimes I make pretty food just for me and don't share with y'all. And sometimes I take photos and don't post them even when it looks nice.
