One of my son in laws mother is Vietnamese. She made bahn mi sandwiches with spam and cucumber and other veggies. Two things I hate are spam and cucumbers. Those things were delicious.

Not much on baked goods. Pies and cakes. I have made peanut butter pies before. Dang they are good. I’ve made key lime pie that turned out better than expected. I made a few root beer pies. Took a couple of tries to get the amount of root beer extract right. Also have made lemonade pies. All of them are a hit with company and very simple to make. I have never made a cake. Can’t stand cake.

Fried oysters in Cincinnati? Hmmmmmm.

There is a place near my sister in Houston that has good fried oysters. I could go for a fried oyster po-boy around now.

Here’s where everyone in Cincy who liked oysters would go:

Washington Platform Saloon & Restaurant

Sadly (for all those people, not me) they closed for good recently, but their website is still up. 🤷‍♂️

Now, those fried oysters here in po-dunk Clarksville…I’m sure they’re the freshest Gordon Food Service had available.

It’s why I say I will eat almost anything. It’s not the ingredients it’s the Cook & the combinations.

Catch up post!

First. Happy birthday TastyReuben I’m glad you got a special meal.

This doesn’t look like much but I should face typed it up for the mince meat challenge. Really tasty. They have curry paste in the mix and the sauce.

Massaman Meatballs.

Last night we went to a newish local place (about a year I think?)

Pathetic service.

Not sure what was going on. It wasn’t very busy.

Our table of 5 ordered and paid up front at the bar at 6:50pm for

1 serve of sliders & bowl of hot chips
2 steak, 2 pork belly, 1 schnitzel

(Plus cocktails & hard ginger beer)

About an hour later someone came to say that there was no pork belly left and took our order for replacements. 1 signature burger. 1 chicken parm.

At 7:30pm the sliders arrived.

About 10 minutes later the burger arrived. Our companion put his sliders on his burger plate to make Mickey Mouse for a photo before proceeding to eat all his burgers. (He was trying to share but besides stealing his chips we let him eat his meal).

At about 8pm came the 2 steaks, cooked ok, but served on the cool side & unseasoned. The mash was solid. I went & swiped the cruet from near the pass. Finally about 5 past 8 came the schnitzel & parm. The parm was ok & wasn’t hot but not cold enough to complain about. My mash with the pan was better but not seasoned.

The plate of hot chips never turned up. I went to the bar to see if they could get them served in a takeaway box but the kitchen was closed so they refunded me.

We discussed dessert around the time the sliders came but weren’t game but we wanted dessert so when we left and we went to the shops for treats & ice cream and came back here. I went to bed at 1am. No clue what time the rest did. It was still a fun evening but none of us will ever have anything nice to say about The 7 Valleys.
