What did you cook or eat today (June 2023)?

Not that I’ve seen.
There’s a very nice white corn manchego flavoured one from Manomasa that’s that sort of shape. Quite strongly flavoured but good all the same.

I have to confess it’s not something I’ve looked into in great depth, there is a lot of choice but as the bog standard supermarket tortilla chips (sort of thing below) are good and comparatively cheap I tend to buy those.
These contain only maize flour, oil and salt and often it seems the less ingredients the better!

There are other good quality yellow corn ones with only oil and salt available but all are over the £2.50 mark and as my family easily eat the majority of a packet each it’s £4 for everyone V’s £10 and I can’t bring myself to spend that on tortilla chips!

Then there’s this type of thing that charge a premium and give you a dose of extra chemicals. I always read the ingredients list on the back of packaging and am often surprised.

Corn (Maize), Rapeseed Oil, Salt, Antioxidants (Rosemary Extract, Ascorbic Acid, Tocopherol Rich Extract, Citric Acid).

It wouldn't occur to me to buy tortilla chips. Just quarter a few tortillas, fry them for a minute or two and add salt. They are one of the easiest snack foods to make yourself. And, by making them yourself you can control the crunchiness. I prefer them just slightly chewy and I can't buy them that way.

I'm not much of a snacker, so I don't buy them often. Usually if we're having people over for dinner I'll buy a bag and make dips. I generally have too much going on in the kitchen already to bother frying chips.

It's easy to make them yourself for just yourself or maybe a normal small family but when you're feeding my lot it's like a mass catering event and standing over a pan frying bits of tortilla for an age isn't going to happen above the other impending food jobs that need to be done to get everything on the table 😂

Exactly! On my own I would rather just eat a handful of toasted pistachio nuts for a snack. I love making salsa, queso, and guac for family and friends, but by the time I am done making it I have already tasted enough of it to not want more of it when everyone arrives (so people mistakenly think I don't eat much hahahahaha!). And yeah, my feet hurt and my back hurts sometimes even after wearing my crocs while preparing food for hours on end so definitely not going to fry up tortillas for them!

All of this 👆is spot on!
Even crocs can't save me from the marathon cooking I seem to get myself into.
And absolutely bang on with the having 'tested' so much dip by the time everyones assembled you don't want any 😂

Tuna and olives, last season’s tomatoes from the freezer.

Yeah, I'm not into the flavored things, I'd rather get plain and make dips.

Different, but not very different. They're a bit thicker and have a different texture.

Fritos ingredients: corn, corn oil, and salt.

Tostitos Tortilla Chips Ingredients. Corn, Vegetable Oil (Corn, Canola and/or Sunflower Oil), and Salt

Eat them side by side, and they are very different, to me at least. But, I can't find any information indicating that Fritos are available in Europe, so it wouldn't matter over there.

I eat them in different ways. I like Fritos on top of chili and that's it. I rarely eat them at any rate. Tortilla chips are mostly for dips although I will eat them in chili sometimes, but tortilla chips are way more versatile. To me.

Ask your cousin about the Frito Pies sold at Thomas Jefferson HS football games. I ate a lot of them. :hungry:

Same here, Fritos have a completely unique taste, very salty.

I go through phases with them. Sometimes, just opening a bag and smelling them turns my stomach; other times, I could eat my weight in them. I like the regular Scoops ones and the chili-cheese ones.

To me, they don’t work with salsa at all. Bean dip and cheese dip, in chili, and I used to get them on chili burgers in San Antonio, all good.

You’ll think I’m crazy, but plain Fritos dipped in orange sherbet is hard to beat. That salty-sweet combination is delicious!

Brisket hash made from some of the leftover brisket Craig smoked a while back that we portioned and froze. Rest of ingredients were chopped red bell, onion, a bit of half sour pickle, some pickle juice and worchestershire, S&P, eggs on top. Besides the fact that I broke my yolk when I flipped my egg, so no bleed, it wasn't a pretty plate, so no picture.

Well that was such a long time ago, LOLOLOL...

Is that the same as taco pie? Where they put the stuff in the little Frito bags?
