Hungarian chicken paprikash, a Hairy bikers recipe. It was absolutely smashing 🥰 it's a stew made out of chicken, paprika powder and fresh paprika ( red bell peppers). Served with mashed potatoes.

Pizza Hut?? Please. I like to occasionally order take out pizza. It is always local pizza joints. More $$ but well worth the price.
You might if you lived here - we have two local places that sell pizza. You ever get pizza from a gas station? That's more or less what it is.

They just take pre-made pizza bases that they buy in bulk from a food supply warehouse, ladle on canned sauce straight from the giant can, and prepackaged shredded fake cheese. I know, because I've watched them make them.

Sadly, the chain places are the only places in town that make anything resembling a handmade pizza. Of those, we have Pizza Hut, Domino's, Donato's, and Papa John's, and my favorite of those is Donato's, but they're continually being written up in the local paper for chronic health department violations (why they haven't been shut down for good, I don't know).

Second is Pizza Hut, because they're the only ones to offer a cracker crust (a Midwest specialty) and I like their weirdly-generic "pork topping."

So, the rare times we order pizza, it comes from The Hut. If I wanted a proper dough-made-in-store-pizza-baked-in-pizza oven...that's about 40 minutes each way, so that gets saved for eating in.

Final degree. She is an Island girl from Hvar who thought she knew it all. She married a crazy junkie and dropped out after 3 years. We dealt with her husband and I was pleased when she returned to her studies at first in Split University. There is no work for her here in her field. You can take the girl out of the Island, but you can't take the Island out of the girl. She married a local and as everyone does on Hvar work in Hotels etc during the season. I'm not bothered my wife her aunt is.
Oooooh my goodness, such a sad story...but good she was back to study and finalized it! It makes me think how the enviroment shapes us...hmmm...I do hope she flies higher than hotel seasin work, because she is qualified to do more advanced work! I would be botheted too, if she was a relative, but as you do, one can only advise and step back, as she has to take control of her future, not her aunt or uncle...I hear drugs and narcotics are a huge problem in Split and nearby islands, that is so sad...

I love spätzle, and I'm very interested to see how you prepare it. Please post a recipe! :)
Thank you very much for your interest. These are bought Spätzle and I did choose a pretty common way to cook them, very comfy. Yesterday I cooked them in saltwater, layered them into a big bowl together with heavy fried mushrooms (champignons), swiss cheese and caramelized onions on the top. As seasonings I used salt and pepper (dominant), rosemary and parsley. Normally you put the Spätzle into a heat resistant bowl and let the cheese get brown in an oven, but I couldn't do that this time. Today I tossed everything into the pan and roasted it on low-middle heat. Good luck.
Stay healthy

I finally made it to my favorite produce market.
  • Plum tomatoes were a dollar a quart, so I made oven dried tomatoes.
  • The chimichurri is similar to my previous recipe, with a blend of mint and dill, but I added green olives this time.
  • I used the last of my pickled beets, so needless to say I needed to make more.
  • The cucumbers took a detour on the way to becoming dill pickles. I decided to include freshly sliced ginger root, Szechuan peppercorns, and Serano pepper. I have no idea what it will taste like, but I am certain of one thing: nobody else in my family will want to try it.
Actually, that last sentence is redundant. My family usually doesn’t want to try my food. I know caseydog expressed a similar sentiment recently: if they don’t like it, they don’t have to eat it.

The rest of my output from my trip to the market:

  • Pickled onions - they look rather pedestrian, but I decided to add sumac and ground chili de arbol to give it a different character. They began as white onions, so there's been some color infusion, too.
  • Harissa - I got that beautiful red hue (much redder than the linked recipe) by using only red bell and chili peppers. The linked recipe was made with a mix of orange and red bells, and green serranos.

I love these posts, I almost ordered a takeaway (pasta) like many of you, is it the end of week fatigue?...but changed my mind, there is a lot of ingredients on my shelves, so I did a polenta while finishing other things, with the poultry seasoning😄 and butter, sprinkled with flax seeds, on the side cottage cheese, cherry tomatoes...it is still something cooked 😁kept me full...another hour of work and then...going homeee...

Try 6 months in a leaky boat? I'm not a big fan of them but they are pretty well known. I'm more a ramones fan.
