our "Wally" is just called a pickle here. Cut into quarters, they are spears. Sliced pickles are called pickle "chips."

Yes - 'wally wedges' is now my new name for what you call 'pickle spears'. I think it has a better ring to it. :D

These are then battered and deep fried?

What are those packets of 'classic beef 'n cheddar'?
Roast beef, cheese sauce, and an onion bun:

They can be, but a pickle spear is also a traditional accompaniment to a deli sandwich, and a key component of a Chicago-style hot dog.

I'll have to have a wally wedge with a deli sarnie! That has a certain ring to it too. I'm not sure what a deli sandwich is BTW. :giggle:
You know, when you go to a deli...and get a sandwich...like a pastrami on rye or whatever. Delicatessens (here anyway) generally always include some potato chips/crisps, and a pickle wedge, which I have now deemed "pickle pokers."

I thought the same but I had to try them at least once, as this biking vlogger I like is obsessed with them......and every few videos is stopping to buy one. Followed by one word..."Delicious!!". Has become like his catchphrase.

Anyway, I'm glad I did....they were surprisingly good.
