I love cupcakes. Red velvet are my favorite. Is there anything special to them besides red food coloring? They always seem to taste better when they're the color red.
They aren't red velvet. They are red BELL cupcakes, i.e. the recipe challenge. No red food coloring. Red bell puree and chopped red bell.

Yes, the red food coloring adds something to red velvet cake. I've always thought it didn't taste right if the food coloring is not used, just like with char siu.
