What did you eat or cook today (December 2024)?

I didn't like the schnitzel so gave it to my hubby.

Spain seems to be having a bit of a thing with sushi.
More than one supermarket has started selling ready to eat sushi (mostly at ridiculously inflated prices).

The airport now has a nice little bar where the sushi is made in front of you. I suppose as they’re fond of tartar fish it shouldn’t be a surprise but in the 5 years I’ve properly been in Spain this is the first time I’ve seen another cuisine emerge into the mainstream.

It was hugely entertaining watching Mr SSOAP trying to find something on the menu that wasn’t raw 😂 but once he gave into the idea he liked it so much he ordered it again!

Also amusing is the Spanish twist on his dish, one is truffle topped (of course because if the Spanish can stick truffle on or in something they will) and the middle one is hamburguesa - a mini hamburger! 🤣

And mine. Pretty and very pleasant.
Would definitely go back, not because it was particularly outstanding but because it was a nice airport experience, a nice little island of calm.

The larger chain grocery stores here have sushi stations but as you said; inflated! Come to find out after observation they're taking the about to be expired but not yet sold fish and processing it into the sushi. So, old fish marked way up...
Old fish sushi sounds like a one way ticket to a hospital bed!

How did you make the sandwich meat? Process description at least please!!! 🤔
I think she's got a recipe posted here somewhere.

I looked and couldn't find a posted recipe, though she has several posts in different threads with photos and such. SandwichShortOfAPicnic will have to send you in the right direction.

I made Morning Glory the abominable Southern cucumber sandwich for lunch. 😋View attachment 122086

Oh dear. And not only has it got mayo, it's toasted bread! Poor cucumber...such a delicate soul, finds herself in the rough and rustic embrace of toasted granary bread, slathered in a sloppy mayonnaise kiss.

You’ve made disappointment sound so beautiful - I sort of wish to be “slathered in a sloppy mayonnaise kiss” after reading that. Lovely!
