I've been to Phoenix/Scottsdale many times, sometimes into the unsavory parts of Phoenix. I really don't like the area, but not because of crime. Actually, it is the police/sheriff departments that scare me. 🚓 That, and of course the heat. I don't care if it is dry heat, 110F/44C is HOT!!!:heat:

My bad ... it's referred to as Snotsdale ... and what Dawg, what was wrong with Sheriff Joe? :whistling:

I finally used some of the Bisto instant gravy I bought a few months ago. I cooked a tenderloin (filet mignon) steak a few nights ago, and wanted a peppercorn sauce with it. I mixed the Bisto per instructions, and was surprised at how much it thickened given the amount of water used. As for the taste by itself, not much to say. Pretty bland. But, add copius amounts of fresh cracked black pepper, and it made a decent peppercorn sauce.

So, one out of three ain't bad. I tossed the HP Sauce and the Heinz Salad Cream in the trash bin. But I can see myself using the Bisto, as long as I doctor it up.

They're f@$&ing NUTS!!!
They drive like a bat outta hell - going THE WRONG WAY on the Interstate!
Shootings by the scores everyday
Drugs, and all sorts of illegal crap that no one bats an eye lash at ... it's common place to see things that would curl your hair!
I've had my fill of large cities and we avoid them when we can.
We'll stay out in the country 🤠 thank you very much

I heard the same from a guy in Phoenix as well..drugs on every corner. I know from another forum. Drugs in makkas at 8am. I thought he was exaggerating?

Good thing you aren't Hispanic or Native American. You know how that can go in some areas.

Heck, that's lots of places in the US. In my smallish city of 250,000 people, there are plenty areas one should not venture.

Because of a family death and the ongoing problems north of us due to rain, (most fruit & veg comes from north of Sydney & Queensland) the local veg shop was closed yesterday but she rang me to let me know and we arranged a box of whatever she could. She grows some in hey own garden and so on, such as the courgette, beans, snow peas, & tomatoes.

So the box turned out to be 2 boxes of veg with some freebies thrown in...

Here's that papaya.

My second stop was at my T&T green grocer and theirs were $1.00 each ... Last week they were 50¢
GEEZ!
I gave in and bought just one. Half in a salad for my lunch this afternoon and I'll have the other half on toast tomorrow.

Yeah, I always loved shopping at Sprouts in Phoenix when visiting my cousin and aunt. I remember them being on sale 3/$1, but that was several years ago and I am sure that with inflation they are just more expensive now. Also, that's a pretty darned big avo. The ones I got 3/$1 were much smaller. But it looks perfectly ripe. I always just have to remember to put the leftover half in my direct line of eyesight in the refrigerator so I remember to eat it before it possibly goes brown.

I thought that was a pretty small Avo myself, about 4 inches.
Back home, there's a variety called Kahaluu - HUGE! 10-28 ounces each and the best I've ever eaten.
Yeah, I suppose you are right now that I think of it, 4" is rather small. I just had to pull out my tape measure and look. I don't think I have ever measured an avocado before, LOL. Still weird that I can get them all the way up here in NE Ohio for $1 and you are paying the same in AZ, when you are so much closer to the Mexico border and California.

Years ago I had a huge avocado we ate that was so bland and watery I always decided to stick with smaller ones after that. I have never tried one from HI but I don't suppose they export much of any produce from HI. Even pineapples I buy typically come from Mexico.
