I'm sorry, but I never understood the concept of decaf coffee. Well I mean for people who actually like coffee for it's taste I get it.

You kinda' answered your own question. It is for people who like a good cup of coffee, but don't like the caffeine effect. And, if I add sugar to caffeine, I'll bouncing off the walls for hours.

Yeah. From someone who doesn't enjoy the taste of coffee, I don't get it at all. I can't wrap my head around it. But, that goes with a lot of foods, too...I just smile and nod at y'all and think, "Why?"

I rather like "bouncing off the walls" LOL. And I don't even need a rubber suit.

I have the very same thoughts about sushi.

I thought you didn't like polenta? It's basically grits, so I was confused about that anyway.
I don’t care for polenta or grits, but I’ll make it from time to time.

MrsT is supposed to avoid caffeine because of her heart issues. She also drinks decaf tea (black tea, not herbal) and the occasional decaf soda/pop (usually in a mixed drink).

Curiously I've just come across a polenta recipe that uses fresh corn. I'm guessing that will change the flavour profile completely.

Of course it probably means someone had just taken a major liberty with an American dish and made it edible and no doubt started WWIII! Lol. Sounds good, but I'm lacking the aleppo pepper and won't be able to get any for some time even if I can actually locate any. Hubby was at the fresh food markets this weekend just gone getting me some of the stuff not in supermarkets.

SatNavSaysStraightOn what do you do with the Rose Water?
I bought some a coupla years ago and there it sits ...

If we have visitors coming for an Indian spread I’ll make pannacotta flavoured with cardamom set in cocktail glasses and I’ll top them with a syrup of sugar & rose water which I’ll tint pink, garnish of toasted almond flakes and rose petal.

Ottolenghi had a recipe for reverse polenta that set the culinary world on fire years ago.

Apparently it’s delicious but a lot of work - you start with fresh raw corn kernels, and then cook it, stirring the whole time until it’s thick.

Forgot to take pics but I bulk bought some stuff that was discounted today. Onions were 1,27€/kg for a pack of 2kg so I bought, chopped and froze them. Tomates were 1,5€/kg so I bought two 1kg bags, pureed them and froze them for tomato sauce. Black eyed peas were also discounted at 1,29€/kg so I bought three cans and they're already cooked so it's an easy meal. I'm happy with these purchases.

I’ve been stockpiling canned black beans as the supermarket brand is just 80c a can still and my kids use a can each week in the beef mince tacos.

All the other canned legumes are at least $1 now.

I usually cook legumes/pulses from dried but this is easier for the kids on taco night.

Now that I can get "no salt added" canned beans, I use them most of the time. The sodium in canned beans was always a problem in the past.

I love coffee. I drink 3-5 most days but I cut it out at midday except on Friday when I have a long drive after work.

I quite often feel like a cup of coffee at 8pm but it’s not great for sleep quality even if it doesn’t stop me from going to sleep. I can get good tasting decaf pods for my machine so I can still enjoy an evening coffee.

I also like an affogato dessert and if I feel like it at home I’ll have it with decaf.

In theory dried pulses should be cheaper than canned ones, but that's not what I've found here in Portugal, I can actually buy canned pulses much cheaper than dried ones and I don't need to spend money on water and electricity to cook them. Of course cooking pulses from dried has the advantage that they have no preservatives, and you can just adjust the salt level, etc, but overall I find canned pulses more convenient and they make healthy meals that are also cheap and easy.

I love very cheesy, buttery grits and they are nearly always a vehicle for eggs.

I guess it's because I only drink coffee for it's stimulant properties. I have to add a lot of cream,, sugar, etc to make it easier to drink. I'd much rather drink water. If I drink beer, it's the same. If I wat a nonalcoholic version of anything I will just drink water. I don't like sodas unless they are a mixer in a cocktail.

I totally agree with you . For me, it ranks with zero alcohol beer, lo-fat milk, artificial sweeteners and 1% fat lean beef :hyper: :hyper:

Like I said, caffeine messes with me. I can drink one cup early in the morning, but that's all. As for non-alcohol beer, I prefer alcohol in my beer, but my Hepatologist says I can't live without my liver.
