Sadly my eldest son has developed a very marked intolerance to sulphites. He was ill on his birthday, my birthday and his brothers birthday, really quite ill only half way into the evening, didn’t even make it to pud!
On one occasion he developed a marked pin prick rash all over his face. Initially thought it might be the snails or shellfish but no it’s wine and beer
His greatest sadness is no stout, Guiness
is was his favourite pint.
So this morning I emailed a brewery that doesn’t declare sulphites in their ingredients list assuming it was just an omission from the description but no they don’t use any in their beers!
I’ve just ordered him a mixed box to try
This brewery dug a well in 1758 and are still making beer the same way from it now.
Quite remarkable to think there’s a still very deep well in this building on the high street!
Their beer is barrel aged and they still even have their own on site coopers so make and repair barrels.
The first new cooper in 30 years finished their apprenticeship in 2019 so in keeping with hundreds on years of tradition they put him in a barrel covered him on hops, poured a pail of beer over him and rolled him down the road
The high street backs onto the river wye so in this high street is also the Heineken brewery and John Smiths!
I can’t wait to see my sons face when he find’s out sulphite free stout is here!
